Obituary for Michael Girgis (1985–2024)

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Michael Girgis, age 39, who died unexpectedly on November 23, 2024. Born on October 11, 1985, Michael was a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, whose warm heart and kind spirit touched the lives of all who knew him.

Mike was the cherished son of Susan and George Girgis and a devoted brother to Mark (Stephanie) Girgis and Cristina (Duvall) Dawkins. He was a proud uncle to Harper, Cameron, Hudson, Miller and Calia.

For the past 21 years, Michael worked in the Food Services Department at Sunnybrook Hospital, where he became a trusted and beloved colleague. Known for his helpfulness, natural leadership, and genuine kindness, he was a source of support and joy to his coworkers.

Outside of work, Mikey had a zest for life. He traveled as often as he could, making memories with the people he loved. He recently gained an appreciation for cooking, especially grilling steaks regularly with his parents. Girgs also had a lifelong love for anything chocolate. A passionate motorcycle enthusiast, he spent many hours riding, always with a sense of freedom and adventure, until hanging up his helmet a few years ago. Above all, Uncle Mike adored spending time with his nieces and nephews, forming close and lasting relationships with them that will be cherished forever.

Mike’s family, friends, and coworkers will remember him as someone who lived life to the fullest. He is deeply missed by his parents, siblings, nieces and nephews, and all who were lucky enough to know him.

Michael’s love, laughter, and light will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. May he rest in peace.
