Hi Uncle Mike! It’s Cam. I miss playing hide and seek with you, and eating snacks together at Lola & Gedo’s house. I wish we could do that again. I see your picture all the time and say, “Hi Uncle Mike!” I hope you love my new dance moves. Every night before I sleep I thank God for you. I’ll always save a piece of my cookie for you. I love and miss you, Uncle Mike.

Mike, it feels so surreal to be writing here. The denial is real, even months later. This is just devastating, incomprehensible.
One thing I know is how much you were loved, how much you were respected, how much you were admired. The shear volume of those who paid their respects proves you touched so many lives. You wholeheartedly lived a life true to who you are, and that is the Mike we will always remember.
The beauty of experiencing life with you will forever stay with me. The imprints you left on my kids will be something they will take with them as they grow older and shape them into genuine, carefree people. The memories; the memories of our road trips, family trips, countless dinners, playing with the kids and hearing the excitement in their voices, our conversations and jokes, those are forever.
There's never enough time with the ones we love. You've taught me to care less about what others think. You've taught me life is too short to not splurge. You've taught me the value of time. From the depths of my being, thank you.
You'll always be a brother to me. I hope this new journey is everything you envisioned and prayed for. I hope you've found peace.
I love you.
Steph.

Mikey,
You were the eldest brother to an eldest brother. You taught me the importance of being a protector, to live fast but to also have a slow building plan. To be passionate and confident in what you believed in. To not just have faith, but to practice faith.
Thank you for embracing me into this awesome family with open arms, for making me feel like a true brother. I always looked up to you and Mark like my own older brothers. So much so that I dreamed of getting an Acura RSX to match you guys. Then when I finally got mine, you guys sold yours and got… Elantras.
You left an impression on this world—a mold stronger than concrete, one that will never crack, fade, or be filled. Everyone you met has a story, a laugh, a smile, a “You gooood?” from you that they will never forget.
There was only ever one Mike. No “versions” of you existed. You were the same with everyone. You never folded for anyone. You never watered yourself down. You were 100% you, every single time.
And that’s why you’ll never be forgotten.

Mike,
I miss you, brother. These past few months, I find myself reminiscing of the memories I have of you. I remember when we were kids riding our bikes around Tooklea and I was trying so hard to keep up with you and Dom. I remember all those times in the Ashgrove basement when we would sit together and watch TV, a movie or a ball game. Sometimes we would talk, sometimes we're quiet, but it was always nice just being around you. I remember you teaching me to drive with your Integra. No matter how many times I stalled, it didn't matter, you were determined to teach me how to drive manual. I remember the vacations we went on, the drinks and the smokes we shared. I remember you always having my back no matter what. I just wish we had more time. Wish you would be here to see all the kids grow old. Even though I never said it, I love you very much and I'll always look up to you. Keep watching over us. Til we meet again, brother.

Dear Mike,
Having to live without you is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. It’s been just over a month but it feels like a lifetime. Every day I wait for your “you feeding?” text, or a funny meme on Instagram, or a video of the next dessert you want me to make for you. I know these things will never come, but I wait for them anyway.. because I have the tiniest glimpse of hope that one day, in this world or the next, I will get to see you again. And that is what gets me through each day; the mere thought of being able to hug you, dap you, hear your voice.. man, I can’t wait.
Until then, I’ll stare at the pictures, cry at the videos, write down all the funny memories and bake all the Costco cookies… but most of all, I’ll share stories about Uncle Mike with my babies so they grow to know the same loving, strong, funny, opinionated (lol) Mike we all love and miss.
Happy new year. You may not physically be with us, but you’ll be in my heart forever. I love you, Mike.

Michael,
My heart aches knowing you're not here with us on earth. You had such a genuine soul, and infectious smile. You had a way of making others feel inspired by your actions and words. Your daily check- ins, our deep conversations on life and our parents didn't go unnoticed. Though I left for awhile, you always made it a point to ask around to see if I was good, if I was "behaving" There was never a time you never had time for me. When life got hard- you had a way of comforting me. One thing you always mentioned was your "purpose in life is to make sure your parents, siblings, nieces and nephews were good. To make sure everyone was taken care of". I am sure they all felt that. I am so blessed and thankful our mothers connected us. You were my work bestie. The younger brother I always aspired to have.
Your work ethic is one that I strived to have. Grind hard, rest later.
My bestie, I can go on forever. But know that I will always miss you. Love you forever my brother.
To the Girgis family,
Know that I will continue to pray for all of you and Michael's sweet soul. May you be comforted by all the memories and laughter you all have shared with Michael. I pray that God will continue to bless you and give you strength during this difficult time. May Michael rest in eternal peace.

There’s a lot of things I wanna say about Mike. He was a great man, a good friend, a good coworker, but most of all as a brother that I never had; and there were days where I was upset when he saw me in the hallway and asked me yo, you good? I said yeah I’m good. Are you sure? Mike had a way of telling me don’t let that bring you down; the only thing you have to worry about is yourself and your work, don’t worry about anyone else and what they think about you . When we went out with all the guys from Work, we all became brothers!!!! Mike we be truly miss miss brother

I want to express my sincerest to you. As one of the Union Reps from SEIU I had the pleasure of working with Michael in his capacity as a Steward at Sunnybrook. It was a joy to know him and he always brought light and insight to the conversations that we had. I know that he will be missed by many staff at the hospital as I have heard many stories about him taking the time to speak with his coworkers as he travelled to units all over the hospital making deliveries.

I remember playing poker with Mikey in the 2010s, he was usually our 'raise the blinds' timekeeper making sure the game stayed interesting. Always a calm cool cat.
Miss your smile bud. Blinds are up!

Michael was such an Incredible young man. He always had these interesting conversations that made you think. Just last week he asked me why do I always laugh and smile when I see him. That was the effect he had on us. His gestures and comments always brightened my day. I will forever remember his parting words......"The only relationship that matters is the one with you and the King!" Rest assured that He is definitely with God and his Angels. Rest in perfect peace my friend.

I know Mikey as the eldest son of my friend Susan. I only ever saw him happy, smiling, laughing and joking. He loved making his mother laugh and she was so proud of her son. He loved acting silly in the hallways of the hospital as he went floor by floor chatting with pretty much everyone he ran into. The loss of Mikey will be felt all around. His contagious smile will always be remembered fondly. That’s not something that will ever be forgotten.

I am one of the SEIU Chief stewards at Sunnybrook who had the pleasure to meet and chat with Michael many long hours.
He truely was a genuinely great person and feel blessed if you had the honour to be in his presence. He took so much pride in his work and life accomplishment. He will be truly missed by the team at Sunnybrook. I am shocked, sad and lost for words as we say goodbye to an amazing person that has left us way to soon. I pray for his family to get through this difficult time and send my deepest condolences to his family who are suffering such a huge loss. I will always carry his memories in my heart. Michael may you rest in peace my friend. Hugs

Just met Michael Nov 2023 at Sunnybrook.
We had some coffee at Tim’s during breaks and laughed during the chats.
Last I saw him was when I came back this spring after my surgery and he shared his great trip to Cuba.
My deepest condolences to his family.
No words to describe a young man’s passing
May God be with all and bless his Soul.
Amen

Relocating to Canada to complete my tertiary education wasn’t an easy transition. The Girgis family, more specifically Michael Girgis, made the transition easier. We met at Seneca College on the first day of school. On that day a brotherhood was formed. One that will last a lifetime.
