Joan Marie Wedderburn-Spence, lovingly known to all as “Pretty Joan,” passed away peacefully on October 27, 2024, at the age of 70, after a courageous battle with ALS. Joan’s incredible spirit, love of life, and warm smile left an indelible mark on all who knew her.

Born on July 12, 1954, in Jamaica, Joan brought joy wherever she went. Known for her love of music and dancing, she lit up every room with her moves and rhythm, reminding everyone of the simple joy of dancing through life. Her laughter and energy were contagious, she showed everyone that even in hardship, there is room for love, laughter, and hope.

She is survived by her husband Miguel, her daughter Marie, her mother Doreen, her nine siblings, extended family and many dear friends. Her loss is profoundly felt, and her legacy of kindness, joy, and resilience will be cherished forever.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Centenary Hospital, ALS Canada, the Sunnybrook ALS Clinic, and Joan’s personal support workers, whose dedication, compassion, and expertise provided invaluable care and support throughout her illness.
