Joan has been a cherished part of my life, a constant source of kindness, and happiness . Joan had a way of making everyone feel valued and understood. Her warmth was a beacon, and her laughter could brighten up any room she walked into. She approached life with grace. Her legacy is woven into the lives she touched.
As we say goodbye, let us carry Joan’s memory forward, honouring her by embracing life as she did - with kindness, joy, and appreciation for the beauty of every moment.
Rest in peace, Joan. You will forever be missed, but never forgotten.

In 2010 Joan asked me for a drive home one night, I begrudgingly said yes, little did I know that one yes would become 10 years of Joan becoming my evening drive home partner. During those 10 years Joan made the long drive home so much fun. I have many stories from our drives, enough to fill a whole book. During those 10 years Joan became part of my heart and will be to end of days.
One night during a snow storm we were slowly creeping along and all of a sudden I heard snores she was sound asleep. I scolded her for sleeping when she was supposed to keep me awake! Joan always made sure Spence had coconut shrimp and plantain waiting for me when I dropped her off at least twice a week, next day she would ask if I shared my treat, no I said it was gone before Ajax! Joan always made a mundane drive home an adventure, from looking for the gophers on the DVP to the weird flowers at Main & Gerrard (photo attached) Joan would laugh every time she saw them. Some nights we would turn up the radio and sing along all the way home.
My heard broke for her for the way she lost her job of 30 years. She loved her donors, one would call to complain and by the end of the call she had them increasing their donation.
I loved and appreciated her friendship. I have missed her since COVID and will continue to miss her always. All my love Catherine Anne

Pretty Joan.....with an infectious laugh and radiant smile. Working with you at the THS was an absolute joy and it was because you made it so. Cheers to late night dancing on the boat cruise and eating jerk chicken. The impact you had on my life will never be forgotten. Rest in peace. xo

I worked with PJ (Pretty Joan) in the fundraising department for many years at the Toronto Humane Society. She was so committed to her job and raising funds for the animals. The monthly donors just loved Joan! I have lots of wonderful memories of Joan; she was always so much fun and she was such a caring person. She loved to party it up and dance on the weekends, and sometimes even at the office. I really enjoyed our friendship over the years and I will never forget her infectious laugh! Joan will be deeply missed, but never forgotten - she was truly one of a kind. My condolences to Joan's family and many friends, may she rest in peace.

Her smile was always there. Her laughter infectious. Her style, impeccable. Our one-and-only Joanie! One of the best stewards in the non-profit world. She knew every Toronto Humane Society monthly supporter by name. She was first in, and often last to leave. ‘Spence” was always there to pick her up. How she loved her family! How we are so appreciative they shared their Joan with us. May the Lord cover this family with Love and Comfort during this time of deep sadness.
“Thank you Joan for imprinting so much love in this world. Thank you Joan for helping me be a better person.”
May Joan’s memory be a blessing.

I am deeply saddened to hear of Joan's passing. Working alongside her at Toronto Humane Society was truly a joy. Joan’s warmth, laughter, and ever-present smile brightened each day for all of us. She had a remarkable way of lifting spirits and bringing positivity to everyone around her. I still fondly remember the familiar daily message over the intercom: "Joan, the mail is in." It always brought a smile. May her memory continue to inspire and uplift, just as she did for so many.
With heartfelt condolences,
Karen Ward

My heartfelt condolences to Joan's family and friends. I had the pleasure of meeting Joan at the Toronto Humane Society, and she was truly a wonderful person who could light up any room with her infectious laugh.
I fondly remember Joan’s patience and kindness when she started training me in the donation department. Her sense of humor was contagious, and she loved sharing a good joke. Her famous jerk chicken was always a hit at our staff functions.
Joan's passion for her job and zest for life were evident to everyone who knew her. She will be deeply missed. Rest in peace, dear Joan.

I met Joan at the Toronto Humane Society, we worked together in the same department. Joan was always so welcoming to "newbies." We use to laugh every morning as she checked the Toronto Sun competitions, and she use to win on a regular basis. Joan was always so joyful and I just loved it when she went into one of her belly laughs. Joan you will be missed by so many. Rest In Peace my friend.

Sending my sincere condolences and prayers to the family.
I met Joan working at the Toronto Humane Society. We both spent many years there. She took on the lottery pool so of course I would make my weekly trip upstairs to pay my dues . Joan was always so full of life. She always came up with a joke or a funny comment that had you chuckling as well. She loved her trips to Jamaica and her family.
She was my friend and will be missed!
May you rest in peace Joan.
