Obituary of Mrs. Sharon Holland
HOLLAND, Sharon Lee – 81, of Scarborough, Ontario passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at the Sunnybrook Palliative Care Unit of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto. Born in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Sharon was the eldest of five children of the late Earl William and Elizabeth Jean (Ozon) Myers. She met her husband, Kline Holland, while working part-time at Eaton’s in Halifax. She graduated from Mount Saint Vincent Academy in Halifax and began working at Royal Insurance. Sharon and Kline were married in Dartmouth in 1965, and they moved to Toronto immediately after.
Sharon devoted her life to her family, leaving her position as a secretary when her first child was born. She was an exceptional homemaker, seamstress, and pattern maker. She particularly enjoyed designing and sewing bridesmaid dresses and formal gowns. She loved to travel, and travelled throughout Canada, the United States, the Caribbean, Europe, and New Zealand, and to Central America and Brazil. Her favourite place was Hawaii. Sharon enjoyed all outdoor activities, whether she was gardening, camping, boating, swimming, cottaging, or simply sitting outside with a cup of coffee. She also enjoyed hosting gourmet dinners. She received great satisfaction from crocheting and donating lap quilts though Project Linus Canada for children who were seriously ill, and outfits for premature babies at St. Michael’s Hospital. More than anything, Sharon loved spending time with family and friends, including at the annual Pebblehill Christmas Carol Sing that she and Kline hosted for more than 30 years. For anyone who was fortunate enough to know her, it was clear that Sharon embodied all that is right and good in the world.
Sharon will be lovingly remembered and cherished by her husband of 59 years, Kline. She will also be lovingly remembered and cherished by her children, Heather (Chris) Mendela, and Mark (Denise) Holland; her grandchildren, Christopher Mendela, Tim Ryan, and Kirsten Holland; her siblings, Nancy Boyne, Terry (Ellen) Myers, and Ron (Sheryl) Myers; and her nieces and nephews, David, Andrew, Sarah, Jennifer, Christopher, and Carey, and their families. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother Gary.
Cremation has taken place under the care of Ogden Funeral Homes, Scarborough. The family will be receiving friends starting at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 7, 2024, at St. Timothy’s Anglican Church, Agincourt. A memorial service will be held in the Church at 11:00 a.m., with The Reverend Canon Andrea Christensen presiding. A reception will follow.
The family wishes to extend sincere thanks and appreciation to the wonderful staff at Toronto Western Hospital, Princess Margaret Hospital, Toronto Rehabilitation Institute, and Sunnybrook’s Palliative Care Unit for the exceptional care and kindness that Sharon received over the past 13 months.
