Obituary of Alan Rae

Please share a memory of Alan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Alan Rae on July 16, 2024, in Toronto, one month after his 99th birthday.

In accordance with Alan's wishes there was no visitation or service and cremation has occurred. While we're saddened to lose Alan, Dad, Granddad, Grampa, Great-grampa, Uncle Alan, our sadness is offset by the realization that Alan lived an extraordinarily fulfilling life, enjoyed good health until recently, and died peacefully in his sleep. We should all be so fortunate!

Alan was born to Alex and Mildred "Millie" Rae, and grew up in the Kingsway which, in those days, was Toronto's western frontier. Other than three years at university, Alan lived his entire life in Toronto and enjoyed a successful career at Proctor & Gamble, and then at Unilever, where he was President of Lever Detergents from 1968-1985. Alan loved golf, curling, travelling, the cottage on Lake Kashagawigamog, duplicate bridge and, wait for it: gin martinis.

Alan is survived by his wife and loving companion, Nora Bowman; by sons John Rae, Rob Rae (Cathy), and Bruce Rae (Pearl), from his marriage to Norah Douglas (née Coleman); by stepchildren Tim Campbell (Michele), Sandra Kubas (Peter), Linda Campbell, Heather Massicotte (Luc), and Jill Campbell (Jarun); and by numerous loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Alan was predeceased by his son Doug Rae (Shelly).

The family is grateful to the entire amazing staff at Amica Bayview Village, and to Dr. Minsoo Yoon and nurse Klaudia for the excellent care that Alan received.

The family will host a private Celebration of Alan's Life.
