Obituary of Mrs. Elizabeth Okorie
In 1961, Elizabeth Okorie immigrated to Canada and settled in Montreal. The following year, she moved to Toronto to attend Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly known as Ryerson Polytechnic Institute). She pursued a major in Office and Business Management while also studying French. Later in 1962, she briefly moved to New York to visit Samuel Okorie, a lecturer at New York University. She married Samuel Okorie in 1963 and welcomed their son, Achinivu Junior Okorie, in the same year. Tragically, Samuel Okorie passed away in his native Nigeria while visiting with Elizabeth Okorie and their son in 1964. Afterward, Elizabeth returned to Toronto to complete her studies at Ryerson Polytechnic Institute. She then began working at the Ontario Ministry of Colleges and Universities, now known as the Ministry of Education. Despite starting from humble beginnings, she achieved the role of program manager of the Apprenticeship Program at George Brown College, where she worked until her retirement in 1991. Elizabeth Okorie has one son and four grandchildren: Helen, Ocean, Ajay, and Amaya, all of whom reside in Europe. She has a brother named Louis and a sister named Celia.
