Obituary of Mr. George Neal
NEAL, George Eric – Passed away unexpectedly at Southlake Regional Hospital in Newmarket Ontario, on Tuesday, February 27, 2024. George E. Neal was in his 82nd year, after a long life well lived. Left with wonderful memories are his children Jennifer (Alan) Irwin, Geoff (Connie) and Eric (Jaime); grandchildren: Jack Irwin, Emma Irwin and Aaron Neal. Predeceased by his beloved wife of 30 years, Carol (2023), survived by her daughter Cynthya (Val) and grand children Lucas, Mae and Griffin; parents: William A. (2020) and Margaret Neal (2006).
He also leaves a large circle of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. George was an inspiration to his family and others for the way he lived his life. He gave freely of his time and mentored many along the way. He will be greatly missed by all whose lives he touched.
Educated at Harvard Business School and Memorial University. He joined the Bank of Montreal as a bond trader and rose to the position of Executive Vice President and Treasurer during his 25-year career. After BMO George spent the remainder of his career with Manulife Financial and Aetna Life Insurance, Canada in senior executive level positions before retiring in 1997.
He was an avid sportsman and sport enthusiast. Golfing 75 rounds at the age of 81 with his regular foursome or watching his grand children at cheer, hockey, rugby or any other sporting event was his passion. He was an excellent tennis player in his youth, and golf, baseball, squash and basketball player as an adult. He was known to place the odd wager on a golf match or other sporting events and could occasionally be seen at the poker tables in Las Vegas over the years.

Resting at Ogden Funeral Home (4164 Sheppard Avenue East, Scarborough, Ontario). Memorial Celebration of Life and Reception will be held at Scarboro Golf & Country Club (321 Scarborough Golf Club Road, Toronto, Ontario) on Sunday, March 10, 2024, from 12:00pm to 3:00pm with a ceremony at 1:30pm. Following cremation, a private family burial will take place at General Protestant Cemetery in St. John’s Newfoundland at a date and time to be determined.
