Obituary of Mr. Joseph Cyril Saverimuthu

Please share a memory of Mr. Joseph to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with great sadness that we announce that Joseph Cyril Saverimuthu (February 24, 1940 – February 26, 2024), loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and brother was recently called home to the Father, surrounded by family.

He was born to the late Saverimuthu Mariampillai and the late Marypillai Bastiampillai in Karampon, Kayts, Jaffna, Sri Lanka. He was the younger brother of Ariyaratnam (Daisy) and the older brother of Sylvester (Anna Mary).

He married Jane Antoinette Arulappu at St. Anne’s Church in 1970 and they spent the next 54 years of their lives together.

In that time, they were blessed with the arrival of eldest daughter Darlene Keshani (Mohan) in Sri Lanka. Shortly after, he embarked on a journey to find new opportunities for himself and his family that would take him to India, Austria and ultimately Canada, where he settled in Montreal in 1975. There, he and Jane added to their family with the birth of Danistan Kumar (Katayoun) and Angela. He would spend the final years of his life in Waterloo with Jane, close to his eldest daughter and her family.

He worked diligently as a draughtsman, while being a doting father and husband who sacrificed much to provide for his family and give them a happy and successful life. Along the way, they established themselves in the Canadian Tamil community.

In addition to his wife, children and their spouses, he leaves behind Sofia, William, Amelia, Lucas and Emma, his five grandchildren who are an important part of his legacy and one of the biggest prides of his life. He is also survived by his brothers, brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins in Sri Lanka, Canada, the United States and Europe.

He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
