Obituary of Mrs. Maria Joselyn Jeyasothy Edward
In Memoriam
Late Mrs. Maria Joselyn Jeyasothy Edward
My Beloved Wife – Friend, Philosopher and Guide
Born on the lap of earth at “Sothy-Nikethan” in Mallakam, Ceylon- cradled and nurtured by her darling mother, Evangeline and she was taught the norms and truths of life by her doting father Paramsothy – A stickler for discipline. Day by day and night by night, my wife grew up in wisdom and grace to be a woman who would weather the storms and qualms of life with equanimity. Your kith and kin; friends and students stand here, now, in testimony and nod in silence in both approval and acknowledgement.
Maria Joselyn was taught and tutored at Holy Family Convent, Jaffna and at Aquinas University- the citadels of learning. Your father Paramsothy was a head-master who named all his seven children with the suffix ‘ Sothy” meaning “The Light” or rather “Enlightenment” and truly, you all enlighten not only your lives but also all around. You were taught “What we sow, we will reap” in accordance with the Tamil dictum.
Maria! your contributions to education both at home and abroad-in the Kingdom of Lesotho and South Africa and in Canada bear testimony and will withstand the passage of time.
Her two daughters- Jessica Arthur and Julia Selvarajah stand with their families in testimony so that all the elements of the earth will stand up and say, Maria Joselyn Jeyasothy, well done our daughter and teacher par excellance! Ave Maria, our hearts crack but we hear, your answer:
I am at peace, my soul’s at rest
Just as I’m in you; You are in me
Do not dwell upon my death; But, celebrate my life
Forever and ever in Eternal Bliss- Amen!
Requiescat in pace
