Mr. Thambirajah Yogarajah

Obituary of Mr. Thambirajah Yogarajah

Please share a memory of Mr. Thambirajah to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with great sadness that we share that our beloved father and grandfather, Thambirajah Yogarajah, passed away peacefully in Toronto on December 23, 2023.

Yogi was born in Jaffna, Sri Lanka on January 1, 1938, the seventh of eight children. He is survived by his three children (Eugene, Michelle, Ilin), two grandchildren (Aidan, Simona), and siblings (Rajamani, Sivarajah). He is pre-deceased by his former spouse and friend (Cynthia), parents (Sivapackiyam, Thambirajah) and siblings (Packiyarajah, Dr.Selvarajah, Shanmugarajah, Dr.Poopalarajah, Rajeswary). He will be fondly remembered by many cousins, nephews and nieces.

Yogi was a caring, generous, positive person who loved being with and supporting the people around him. An accountant by training, he worked in several countries in Asia and Africa before settling with his family in Toronto in 1986. He was very active in the community and volunteered with several organizations, including the Schizophrenia Society of Ontario, where he established the first yogathon to raise funds and awareness. A unique soul who touched the lives of many, everyone has a story to tell about Yogi and he always had a story to tell.

Visitation is at Ogden Funeral Homes on Tuesday December 26th from 4-7pm. The funeral ceremony will be at Highland Hills Cemetery in Gormley on Wednesday, December 27th from 11:30am. Lunch will follow at J&J Swagat in Markham from 2:30pm.

If you wish, donations can be made to St. Michael’s Hospital Foundation.
