Raj Krishna Tribhuwan, affectionately known as Raj, Bai, Uncle Boyd, passed away on November 25, 2023, at the age of 64. Raj was born on October 17, 1959, in Victoria Village, in then British Guiana. He was the fourth child and first son of the late Raghubir Tribhuwan and Phulmatie Anupsingh. Raj’s life journey took him from Victoria Village, Guyana to Suriname, to Scarborough, Ontario, leaving behind a legacy of resilience, inspiration, and compassion.

Raj faced the challenges of total blindness from the age of six, but his indomitable spirit and friendly nature endeared him to all who knew him. Growing up in Logwood, Enmore, Guyana, his blindness did not stop him from participating in childhood activities. He attended the Guyana Institute for the Blind in Georgetown, where he developed his musical talents, mastering various instruments including the guitar. In 1980, he moved to Suriname, where he spent over a decade making a positive impact through teaching and music in the Guyanese and Surinamese communities.

In 1993, Raj immigrated to Toronto, Canada, reuniting with his mother and sisters. Despite his visual impairment, he embraced educational opportunities for the blind, becoming well-known in the Toronto sight loss community. He enthusiastically taught and motivated other blind individuals to use computers, screen reading software, mobile phones and other assistive technology for various purposes. Raj worked with organizations including Balance for Blind Adults and the CNIB Foundation. Raj's altruism extended beyond borders, making him a global inspiration and advocate for the blind. On his 50th birthday, he announced the creation of The Raj Foundation, which was dedicated to supporting blind students in their educational pursuits in Guyana and the Caribbean.

His impact as a passionate educator, and the use of JAWS Software he has to contributed to many students in Guyana to successfully complete the CXC Examination and was admitted to the University of Guyana to further their studies. His abilities as a musician and advocate for those in need will be remembered by many. His goal of empowering blind people through The Raj Foundation in Guyana will continue to inspire and make a lasting difference.

Raj's love for music, singing, and writing poetry showcased his creativity. He also loved technology and figuring out how things worked from cars to radios. His artistic pursuits allowed him to express himself and bring joy to those around him.

He was also a man of faith, finding solace at Bethel Canadian Reform Church, where his spirituality guided and supported him throughout his life.
