Obituary of Mrs. Gloria Jean Hunter

Please share a memory of Mrs. Gloria Jean to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Gloria, in her 95th year. Loving mother of James and Sue and their spouses Dina and John, grandmother to Taylor and Devon. Stepmother to Karen, and her spouse Tony, step-grandmother to Lisa and Brian, and their spouses Michael and Stacey, and great step-grandmother “GG” to Amelia, Audrey, Rowan, and Sam. She will be sadly missed by her friends and extended family.

Born on March 9, 1929 in Windsor, Ontario, she was twice widowed, and greatly loved, by two very wonderful and kind husbands – George Douglas Imrie and Raymond Hunter.

An enthusiastic traveller, she thoroughly enjoyed her employment as a travel agent at various travel agencies, including Brotherton Travel and Simpsons Travel Service in Toronto. Having toured the world, she made it very well known that her favourite destination was Hawaii, where she enjoyed over 25 visits. She also not only worked at Scarborough Centenary Hospital in an administrative capacity, but she was especially proud of her fundraising efforts as a member of the hospital’s Women’s Auxiliary, doing her part in its early years in establishing a wonderful medical facility for the community of Scarborough.

As an avid fan of Bridge, she often enjoyed many evenings with family and friends around a card table. She also enjoyed the sports activities of the Toronto Blue Jays and Toronto Raptors. She often loved to tell the story of her first “date” with Raymond at a Blue Jays game, where his granddaughter caught him “sitting with a blonde next to him” in the stands!

Trips to husband Raymond’s cottage on Chandos Lake during the Summer months were always a relaxing pleasure. Whether it be relaxing on the dock, fishing with the grandchildren, or reading a book on the deck, Gloria always enjoyed the quiet moments of life. These moments included getting together with her extended family and friends for coffee and conversations, about life, her daughter’s dogs, the Blue Jays and Raptors, as well as her favourite television shows, Coronation Street and Hudson & Rex.

Her love for her family will be sadly missed. We take comfort in the knowledge that she has joined her husbands and other family members in a wonderful place for all of eternity.

Please feel free to leave messages of condolence and shared memories.
