I was tremendously shocked to learn of the passing of my friend Stanley. I was aware of Stan in 1961 at our secondary school, Naparima College in San Fernando, Trinidad when he won an island scholarship. He became an instant celebrity and brought great pride to our college. He was four years ahead of me and we graduated and went our separate ways to establish careers. We crossed path again fifty two years later in 2013 when I started attending St. John's Milliken Presbyterian Church in Toronto, Ontario.
Stanley and his family developed a friendship with my family by our interaction at our church. I had the privilege to collaborate with Stanley on many committees at our church. We found a common cause to support and promote using our skills to benefit the church facilities.
I visited his home often and we would reminisce about our college days and life in Trinidad. We would talk on the phone for extended periods discussing local issues and conversations would invariably turn to our memories of Trinidad.
I was very fortunate to visit and talk to Stanley on the evening of one day before he passed away.
On winning an island scholarship, Stanley in an interview recorded in the college yearbook of 1962 said, "Most people think that there is a certain formula which one employs for winning an island scholarship, but it is really an attitude of mind." This was an example of his maturity and scholarly thinking even at such an early age.
It was a privilege to have Stanley as a friend and I will always remember and cherish the times we shared.
My sincerest condolences to the Algoo family. May God bless you in this time of great loss and deep sorrow.
Rest in peace, Stan.

So sorry to hear about the passing of Stan. First met Stan and Imogen when we attended St John's Pres Church in Scarborough. What a beautiful welcoming couple they were. My favorite memory of them was every time we went to church, they had seats waiting for us next to them. How appreciated I felt. Stan, I will always remember that smile, your pleasant, outgoing personality and of course your listening ear. Please accept my sincerest condolences, Imogen and Brendon.
Sleep in Heavenly peace, dear Stan.

We miss our friend and wonderful neighbour Stanley. A very educated and knowledgeable man who spoke to each of our family members at different times on a variety of topics. He was also a great mentor and guide to our son Justin.
Imogen and Brenden we share in your grief and will keep you in our prayers.

Dearest Imogen
I was shocked and saddened by the news of Stan’s untimely and sudden passing and extend my deepest condolences to you and Brendon. Although we’ve been out of touch for many years, I have thought of you both quite often and have nothing but fond memories of you dating back to the ‘60s from our growing-up years. The warmth you both shared in your home with open doors, open arms, gourmet meals, congenial friends, laughter and great conversations full of wit and humour, is the legacy Stan has left behind. You complemented each other like no other couple I know. In two weeks it would have been 55 years since I walked down the aisle of the Susamachar Church with both of you.
It's the end of an era for a great scholar gone too soon, a person well-read, whose exceptional knowledge touched an immense network of people both in Trinidad and Canada. Please know that at this most difficult time many prayers and thoughts go out to you, but you are not alone in remembering a truly wonderful person that meant so much to so many.
We’re currently out of the country, unable to join in his final farewell, but we are sending you comforting hugs and wishing you peace in the loving memories he has left behind. Rest in peace Stan, you will be greatly missed. ‘Til we meet again at the open doors.

My last email to Stan.
Stan, we go back to early 60’s as I was in dormitory and you at the teachers training college dormitory so we interacted a lot. We were proud of your successes.
You returned from Canada to be a librarian at the Carnegie Library in the mid-60’s where Shaffina worked; she remembers the many new approaches you introduced on library science. Then we went our separate ways, but in 1978, I reached out to you and Imogen about French language schools in Scarborough as both our boys were in the program in Edmonton. You were both gracious with your help for them to end up at Tam O’Shanter. We interacted a lot by way of the Naparima Alumni and the gatherings in your home when out late friend, Brinsley, visited with his valise of stories. With the advent of email and social media, we started a long period of sharing hundreds of stories, jokes, pictures of the wild, and our own attempts at plebeian poetry. We provoked each other as our ideologies were different, and which resulted in “Mathematics and Religion, The Body Variate, Ideology is Devil-like, Ode to the Coal-pot et al”. You recently asked that I peer review your last 2 treatises on philosophy for Trinidadians…
As others, I was amazed at your writing and research skills, your composition style and your depth in history, religion and literature. I mused with you that Literature missed you not doing a doctorate to contribute more to knowledge.
I will miss these exchanges with you, which hopefully will continue with Rob, Dean, Farouk et al.
You loved your Trinidad alma mater and the influence of the Canadian missionaries in our education, and you boasted about our successes in academics and sports; you were a fan of all the successes of Trinidadians playing on the world stage.
You were sincere and jovial with friends , and stayed in touch with so many over the years.
May there be peace with Imogen and Brandon for your departure in body back to Mother Nature, but I know that your spirit will visit often to comfort and guide them, as up there, there is no rest for the pure of heart.
May God bless you
Shaffina and Roland Hosein
