Robert Beattie Pollock

February 8, 1928 - June 15, 2023

Robert Beattie Pollock “Bob”, our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother-in-law, and uncle at the age of 95, passed peacefully with family by his side on June 15, 2023 in Scarborough, Ontario.

Born February 8, 1928 in Larkhall, Scotland to parents James and Annie. Bob spent many summers at Glengavel, a country property, where his grandfather was the Loch Master. When Bob was 11 years old, his father passed away. To support his mother, Bob started working at 13 years old in the plumbing trade.

In his youth, Bob played Bicycle Polo with his brother in the 1940’s. The bikes they used had no brakes, so much effort was used to play this sport. The sport took him to many locales within the United Kingdom. Bob continued his love of biking into his early 80’s.

Bob married Jean (McQuire) August 1950 in Larkhall, Scotland. Crossing the Atlantic on the “Empress of Scotland'' Bob, Jean, two year old Annette and three month old Stuart immigrated to Canada in 1956 landing in Montreal, Quebec.

Bob immediately began working in Toronto as a plumber with Local 46 in 1956 until retiring in 1991. In 1961, the family welcomed their Canadian baby, Laura. At that time they had settled into a quiet suburb in Scarborough, Ontario. Bob continued to live in their home until his brief stay in Scarborough General Hospital.

Bob loved photography. In his early years as a photographer, he developed his own pictures. Bob continued this hobby and expanded it to cassette videotaping and recording on DVDs. Bob always had a camera in hand at any family gathering and on the many cruise trips he took with Jean.

In Bob’s retiring years, he enjoyed cooking and did so with flair. He loved his food; especially milk and tomatoes. One of his daily routines was reading the Sun newspaper and completing the crossword puzzle. In his 70’s, Bob embraced technology learning how to use email and Facebook to keep in touch with family and friends in the United States, Scotland and Australia.

They hosted many parties and guests were always welcome in their home. Bob was a loving family man. He was very involved in his grandchild’s lives. Bob was a hard-working man with strong work ethics. He had a great sense of humour, even up to his last week of life. All that knew him found Bob to be a very kind and respected man.

Loving father to Annette (Jeff), Stuart, Laura. Beloved grandfather to James (Amanda), Pamela, Scott (Hooriya), Erica. Cherished great-grandfather “Big Papa” to Taya, Alyssa, Jaxon, Addison and Madi.

Predeceased by his loving wife Jean, sister Helen (Jack) Raeside and brother William (Mattie) Pollock.

There are special people in our lives, who never leave us, even after they are gone.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the nurses, doctors and other caregivers at Scarborough General Hospital for their kindness, support and care shown to Bob during his short stay.
