Obituary of Ms. Rachel Louise Slawter-Pittman
Born on August 9, 1942 in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia to William & May Sheppard.
Rachel is survived by daughter, Marla; sons, Cecil and Blake (Vanessa); siblings, Dorothy and William; Grandchildren, Jordan, Tameka, Taryn, Keira, Treyvon, Jamal, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Predeceased by her brother, George Sheppard and son, Craig Sheppard.
Rachel worked for the Federal Government for 32 years!
She was a long time member of Grant AME Church in Toronto, where she was Superintendent of the Sunday School; where she taught basketball great, Steph Curry.
Rachel participated in several ministries at Grant Church over the years. These included The Steward Board, The Elizabeth Hackley Women’s Missionary Society, Prime Trimers Senior Ministry, The Lay Organization, and The Board of Christian Education.
Rachel also enjoyed attending Christian Education Conferences in Chicago, Illinois, where the highlight was placing second in Bible Bowl in 2006 and 2007 (respectively), and also receiving her Christian Education Director Certificate in 2018
Rachel enjoyed sports, dancing, travel and spending time with her wonderful grandchildren.
Special thanks to prayer partners; Ms. Elaine, Ms. Gloria, Ms. Olive, Ms. Bertha, Ms. Virginia and Sisters Dorthy, Wendy, Linda, Dale, Esata, Dwana and Helen. Also, special son Gregory Bruce and special daughter, Paulette Pitter.
Rachel was true inspiration and touched the hearts of all those who knew her.
She will be greatly missed!
