Obituary of Mrs. Joan Kirkwood

Joan Kirkwood passed into the presence of her Lord and Saviour on April 21, 2023. She will be dearly missed by her children John (Kim) Kirkwood, Terry Kirkwood, Sherry (Alex) Crews and loving grandchildren Tommy and Steven Crews, Kaitlyn (Dakoda) Huber and Kyle Kirkwood.  

Joan was born on January 12, 1936 in Alliston, Ontario, the third sibling of four children. Joan was the only young girl in her youth group at church and the only known young Christian girl at her high school. She did enjoy close friendship and skating activities with her older brother, Don Carlton, but felt that her life really began when she met the charming Irish Sergeant Bill Kirkwood on a blind date – which was her first date, her first boyfriend, and he was the love of her life. Joan was happiest when she was putting others first, caring, providing and being a wife, mother and grandmother. All parts of her life were driven by her love for her family and her deep abiding commitment to God. Joan was loyal, self-sacrificing, faithful and generous to a fault with a deep quiet inner strength. 

Visitation will take place on Thursday, April 27 from 5-8 pm at Ogden Funeral Home, 4164 Sheppard Avenue East, Scarborough. Funeral service will be on Friday, April 28 at 11 am, with pre-service visitation from 10-11 am at Shepherd Village, 3760 Sheppard Avenue East, Scarborough. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Shepherd Village or The Philip Aziz Centre/Emily’s House Foundation.
