One of Mom's many life accomplishments was 70+ years of volunteering. She started as a "candy striper" when she was a teenager working in the hospital after WW2 and never really stopped helping others, working well into her 80's. During the Vietnam War in the 60's, Mom learned of the impact it was having on children in that country. She felt she had to do something to obtain medical aid for them. Along with her dear friend Helen, she spearheaded a petition campain in her area aquiring more than 4,000 signatures and several letters from a supportive cross-section of religious faiths. They followed up by presenting the petition to a Member of Parliment in Ottawa. When Mom was passionate about a cause, she would let nothing stand in her way!
Friends will be received for a "Celebration of Life" at All Saints' Anglican Church (300 Dundas St W, Whitby, ON) on Saturday April 29th. Visitation will be at 10:00 am with a memorial service at 11:00 am. Light lunch to follow. The service will be live streamed at allsaintswhitby.org.
If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Barbara to the Alzheimer Society of Canada. Mom has gone home to join her loving parents Jack and Edna and her 3 beloved sisters Audrey, Jacquelyn and Anita.
