Very sad to hear of Pak-Koung Brittania eldest son's passing indeed.
We used to love going to Brittania with our Dad as kids to meet the people & see the turkeys/chickens in the backyard of La Boutique Brittania.
Our Dad, Mr Sew Sen Lee, often told us stories of his early life at the Brittania Sugar Estate with GREAT fondness & his memorable time spent with Pak-Koung & his family.
Although I didn't know Uncle Lee Voon Ah Chong well, I know that he contributed & played a huge part in our LEE family history in Mauritius. May he now rest in peace.
Our thoughts & prayers are with his whole family.
Our deepest condolences,
Madeleine Sew Sen Lee

This is very sad news. I always remember his photo in the bedroom behind the shop during the days of Roche-Bois.
He was a good man and always cared for everyone around him. He was always kind to us and helpful with advice. He has a special place in our hearts and will always be remembered.
What we do in life echoes in eternity and his legacy will never be forgotten. I am very glad to have known him and grateful for everything he has done for us. We will all miss him dearly.
I remember in all the videos of Soukong, he was always so calm and statesmanlike. I always called him “Prime Minister” because he always conducted himself with poise, grace and kindness. He was truly unique in a good way.
His suffering is over now and I hope all the family in Canada find courage and support in one another in this difficult time. It is not easy and he will leave a void that can never be filled. Our prayers and well-wishes are with you.

I used to drive Koung Koung to visit Popo at the nursing home. And when I heard that he thought I was a good driver, I felt so proud..his approval meant a lot to me, even for something so small.
Our trip to China together gave me great memories of Koung Koung that I'll cherish forever...him doing shots like a boss at a dinner we went to, him suddenly being able to speak perfect English to us grandkids (probably to impress his China family), posing in front of the Bruce Lee statue with nunchucks (he was such a good sport and so young at heart), how happy he was to be around his China family and how sad it was for him to say goodbye to them.
He was so loving and so full of life. We took him for granted. He was so strong and we thought he would live forever, even though it doesn't make any sense. We were never really prepared for him to leave us even when he was lying in that hospital bed. He was the backbone of the family... And he'll be missed greatly. Nothing will be the same now that he's gone.
Family meant everything to him. I remember how stricken with grief he was when Popo died. The only thing that puts our minds at ease is that he's no longer in pain and that he can be with our Popo again in heaven.

There is no word that can describe how sad it is to lose such a wonderful uncle who was so humble, gentle, kind hearted and always smiling. We will cherish every moment that we have spent together with him during all the various family gatherings and birthdays; He may be gone from our sight, but never from our memories.
May the soul of Cou Cheong rest in peace with the Lord as he reunites with Ah Fong Cou.

Romans 6:4-5
“We were indeed buried with him through baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might live in newness of life. For if we have grown into union with him through a death like his, we shall also be united with him in the resurrection.”

Our deepest condolences to the family. Yichong has been a role model to many, loved and respected by all for his caring, loving and sacrificial heart..
The Lord has blessed him with a good life on earth and He has now finished his race here and is now resting and rejoicing eternally in the arms of His Lord and Saviour Jesus.
2 Timothy 4:7-8
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing

My loving papi, words cannot describe the special bond we had. You have been a constant in my life, through the highs and lows, and it will be a while before I get used to walking into your empty home. I now wholeheartedly return you to our creator and redeemer, as you can love, serve and worship him better where He has taken you. May you pick up your journey with mom again, in the heavenly realms! Until I can catch up with you both again, may you enjoy eternal happiness. Fondly, Pat

I’m deeply saddened to hear of Couchong’s passing. Couchong may be gone but he’ll be forever remembered! His great sense of humour, his kindness, and his smile will be missed. I have always admired the way he used to tease Coucou. It gave me a picture of how a perfect couple should be!
A vivid memory of him was when both him and Coucou came to visit Mauritius in 1988. Having heard that they were coming, I saved some mangoes that we had from our garden. And I remembered how both Coucou and Couchong really enjoyed them, saying that they were the best mangoes they had ever eaten!
Two of my children, Carey and Stephanie, also have a very good memory of their Couchong Koung! They still remember how when he was visiting Vancouver, every morning Couchong Koung would go outside on the patio to do his morning exercise, and they would both stand behind him and copy him!
On behalf of my family both here and in Mauritius, we offer our sincere condolences to the whole family! May you all be comforted and find peace in knowing that he’s now reunited with Coucou. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all!

Some memories to share - On Tuesday when Ah sook came to Roche Bois, the bag was full of Coca-Cola, sprite & sugar cane in cutting time, my mom would go to the market to buy meat. Virginie & I would get 50 cents which was a lot at that time. If it happened to pick us up from school, he would bring a friend & to that relative restaurant

One time, when I was at Britain's, Ah Sook took down a jacket that was for sale, and told me to try it. When he saw the jacket would fit me, he told me to keep it.
Another time, he took at a shop called "West End" and bought a watch for me. It was an automatic watch that have two dials: one for hours and one for minutes like the ones we see for the date.
In 1969, the day after the Chinese New Year public holiday, I went to school. I was the only Chinese boy that came to school that day; all the other Chinese boys in my class had taken a day off. When I came home that day, Ah Sook told me to get ready for he has called a taxi. Together with Khong Sen Sook, we went swimming at Le Goulet beach in Tombeau Bay.
I also remember when he came home during the weekend, and took us to visit relatives; and the many times we went to ONU to watch 'telebox'.
I have only good memories of Ah Sook, my dad's only brother.
Will miss him greatly.

I was so sad to hear of the passing of Yi Chong. I want to extend my deepest condolences to the Ah-Chong family. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. I will keep the many wonderful memories of him - memories from long ago in Mauritius, be it at his home in Roche Bois or his shop at Farquhar St., and some from more recent times when Ah Foung Yi was still here. Yi Chong will be missed by so many. May our beautiful memories sustain and bring comfort to you all, during this time.
