Obituary of Mr. Matthew Aaron Rodrigopulle
Matthew was the best one of us all. Born on July 31, 1998 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, to a loving mother and father (Debra and Adrian), two older sisters (Dilisha and Audry) and an added big brother (Kevin), Matthew completed this close-knit family. He was loved by his grandparents, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends. From the beginning, Matthew was destined for great things. He was a miracle child, ordained and consecrated by Christ, with an unusual favour and anointing from above. Matthew knew Christ personally and walked earnestly with Him throughout his life. He was a servant of God who used his God-given gifts to serve the Church in various ways. His character cannot be summed up in words, but he was Christ-like and united people. An avid shoe collector, with a keen interest in fashion, he was clearly the best dressed in the room. Video game collector, sneaker head and sports fanatic. Creative, brilliant, gifted journalist, well spoken, with a knack for interviewing people. Matthew was a brilliant drummer, who also played the guitar, and bass guitar. He was an adventurer at heart, loved to explore new places and try new food. He was intelligent, with a sharp mind and wit, an insatiable laugh and an amazing sense of humour.
Matthew always had a joyful life and love for people. He knew what he wanted, and went for it. A hard worker, who pushed himself to excel in everything he did. Throughout his life, he had a vast reach across Canada. He loved his city, his career and especially his sports teams. His goal was to be a sports broadcaster and the best dressed one at that. Matthew started his journey at the Ryerson School of Journalism, where he thrived and developed his skills. Matthew loved his career as a journalist, covering countless stories as an editor and writer for various outlets. He had an ongoing successful sports podcast where he showcased his radio and interview skills. After graduating, he returned to Ryerson as a teaching assistant, mentoring journalism students in their final year of undergrad. He held positions at Sportsnet and then went on to advance himself in Regina, Saskatchewan where he worked as a live TV reporter for Global News Regina, covering a multitude of stories and events. His work ethic is unmatched and he always pushed himself to be the best version of himself. His life will have a lasting impact on every person who had the pleasure of knowing him, and many generations to come.
