Please share a memory of Mr. Leon to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

A life well lived

On August 21, 2022 Leon Noel McGuffin, loving father, brother and granddad passed away peacefully in his home in East York, Ontario. Leon is survived by his children, Kevin (Martina), Matthew (Hillary) and Tyler (Malvina). Dear granddad to Ryan, Justin and Brooklyn. Survived by his brother Bruce (Linda), sister Julie (Gary) and predeceased by his father Noel, mother Violet  and sister Bette (Ed). Uncle to Kyle and Paul.

Leon was known as a kind and generous man, who was always mindful of the needs of others. At the young age of 21, Leon joined the metro Toronto police and lead a distinguished career. He served on several different units including many years of undercover work while eventually being promoted to detective sergeant. Leon retired after 32 years and 9 months of service earning the respect of his peers and superior officers.

Much of Leon’s life was centered around sports, having captained many of the teams he played on at a young age. He captained his police hockey team for over ten years at 33 Division, having gone undefeated for most of his tenure there. Leon also enjoyed the game of golf where in his early years was considered a ‘scratch’ golfer. He was a proud member of the Kesrock men’s golf league where he won multiple championships and awards.  His affinity for sports was passed on to his sons and grand children who continue the McGuffin tradition of excellence in sport.

Leon was a dedicated and loving father who bonded with his sons through their family passion and love of sports. He would be at every game or practice, either behind the bench as a coach or in the stands as a proud father and grandfather. His love and guidance throughout the years was felt everyday through phone calls and monthly family gatherings.

Leon will be forever missed by his loving family and friends, and he will always be remembered in our hearts. We are sincerely grateful to the many friends who have given us support and comfort during this time of loss.
