Mr.Dsouza was the sweetest man ever. He was my first math teacher at fmm in gr10 and he knew i was struggling but made the journey so easy. He was so helpful and I remember one day during the OSSLT he chaperoned me to the washroom and he asked me how my current math was class going since he knew i was taking advanced functions and told me to come to him if i ever needed help even though he was only working part time. That was my last but most treasured memory I have with him, displaying his kindness and genuine care for all his students.

I would like to send my deepest condolences to Mr. D'Souza's family. Mr. D'Souza was one of my teachers. He was an amazing person who I personally never saw without a smile or a kind word. He would always greet me with a smile. He would always joke with me when i was in his class as well as when I was not. He always supported me even when I was no longer his student. I would go to him sometimes when I was not his student. He would ask me questions sincerely and would always be willing to listen to my reply. He would always ask me to come again when I was leaving. He would hear from the other teachers about how I was doing and he would always take the time to talk to me about it. He always encouraged me and had faith in me that I would do good. I am very sad that he is gone. May he rest in peace
Sincerely,
Mariam Ahmed

My deepest condolences to Shirley-Ann and your family as well. In my haste to comment, and in total shock,I forgot to mention you in my earlier post. I remember you both fondly at my wedding. I remember Nitin dropped you, while taking a photo booth pic, as he was being silly as usual. We will miss him greatly in our department. He was such a source of joy and comfort to us all. I so wish I could have been at his service to say goodbye and offer support. Unfortunately I was abroad but lit a candle in honour of Nitin at a beautiful cathedral in York, UK. I will continue to pray for all of you as you go through this difficult time.

Danny and I were so saddened to hear of Nitin's untimely death and we extend our sympathies to Shirley-Ann and both the D'Souza and Fernandes families at this difficult time. We were really impressed by all the tributes paid to Nitin, in particular the tributes paid to him by his former students. It is very obvious that teaching was his vocation and not just a job. Our fondest memories of Nitin are his abiding sense of humor, his dazzling smile and his gentleness. Although the physical distance between Ireland and Canada is great, we are with you all in spirit. Dear Shirley-Ann, we extend our sincerest condolences on the passing of your beloved Nitin. We were shocked to hear the sad news yesterday. Although we did not get the opportunity to spend much time with Nitin, he certainly left a lasting impression not too long ago when we met at the mall. He had a way with my Grandchildren entertaining them as you and I reminisced about old times.
Please know that our thoughts are with you as you go through this trying time and please let us know if there is anything we can do to help.

Dear Shirley-Ann and Family,
It must have been traumatizing and heart-wrenching to face such a sudden and tremendous loss of your loved one, Nitin. Time will bring healing and may God give you strength and faith to accept Nitin's early departure. In much the same way as God's plan to place certain individuals in our lives as our loved ones and guardian angels, it is also His plan to take back certain individuals that he gave to our lives to help us, to influence our growth, and to love us. In the coming weeks, months, and years ahead, may you find peace and build a new chapter of your life without Nitin in person, but with Nitin in spirit, memory, and love in your heart. God be with you and embrace you with His love always.
Deepest condolences and kindest regards,

Dear Shirley Ann,
Thank you very much for reaching out to me with this unimaginable and sad news. I am totally numb. I am very very sorry for your loss. I don't know what to write as I still haven't fully grasped this. It makes no sense to me. If there is anything that I can do, please do not hesitate in letting me know. I am sorry for not writing in a coherent stream of thought as I am still understanding what you just sent me. I will miss Nitin's laughter and his sense of humor.
The short time I was graced with his presence is something, 35 years later, that I truly cherish. He really helped me in our first semester at Illinois Institute of Technology and our bond of friendship and brotherhood grew. We both pledged Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity, Alpha Xi Chapter at IIT. Because the fraternity brothers knew how close we were and that we'd be up on a Friday night, one of our duties as pledges was Friday Night Midnight Kitchen. That responsibility was cleaning up the fraternity house's kitchen near midnight on Friday. It wasn't the most pleasant job, but with the two of us splitting the workload, it made it that much easier. Nitin would work the dishwasher - placing plates, flatware, glasses, etc. into racks that would go into the restaurant-grade dishwasher and afterwards dry them off and put it away. I would take care of cleaning the grill and stove and any pots, pans, etc. that would or couldn't be put into the dishwasher. We'd sweep and mop up the kitchen floor and take out the kitchen trash before calling it a night. And by that, I mean we would head back upstairs to play a few games of pool. I will miss him and his stories deeply.
Thank you Shirley Ann for maintaining our friendship by being Nitin's correspondence keeper. I can honestly say that your perseverance is what kept our ties close. Thank you for valuing our friendship more than at times we did ourselves. If there is anything I can do for you, please do not hesitate in letting me know. I am so very sorry for Nitin's passing.
I've attached a couple of scanned photos taken in October 1987 on the campus of Illinois Institute of Technology. The photos surely show our youthful days. One photo is of me, Odin and Nitin sitting on the wall in front of Herman Hall (student union building).

We were neighbors of Nitin and Shirley Ann for 11 years. When our daughter was born Nitin and Jade developed such a special bond. He spent many moments in the backyard playing, sitting, talking and teasing her. 9 years after moving away they reunited when he graciously accepted to help her with grade 12 math. Not only did he help with math but he gave her countless tips for university and exam taking. We always knew he was an incredible teacher and he cared so deeply about the lives and well being of his students.
Nitin was always ready to lend a hand when I had a warm apple pie coming out of the oven. He was selfless in offering his services as a taste tester. His sense of humor and sarcasm was always a welcomed moment each time we saw him. He taught me how to deal with car salesmen. I still use his lines and tricks today. Those poor salesmen had no idea what they were up against thanks to Nitin’s coaching.
He was the reason for many of our smiles and laughter. His passing is such a tragic loss that will be felt by many people whose lives he touched. Rest In Peace Nitin. ❤️

Mr. D'Souza was not only a remarkable teacher but a mentor of love, hope, compassion and resilience. His selfless character is what stood him apart from the rest of the crowd. It didn't matter if he was having a rough day, he would somehow find a way to brighten yours.
He would go the extra mile to ensure his students were taken care of, whether that meant coming in earlier or staying after school. If you had a lot on your plate, he would take time out of his busy schedule to converse and lend an ear. If we had multiple tests on the same day, he would sense that we were stressed and extend our test date to relieve the pressure. Even if that mean an extra one or two lessons for the next test, he would plan for that and make sure we were well prepared. But first and foremost, our mental health were his priority.
He was truly a gem of a person beyond the scope of his job. He has touched so many lives and left behind a huge legacy. He is the epitome of an angel in disguise. His entire presence and character was unmatched and always will be. His contagious smile will not be missed. Gone but not forgotten. Rest in Peace Sir <3

He had a witty sense of humour which he shared regularly with the class making him one of my most favourite teachers at FMM. He made math easy and simple to learn, something which I never thought could be done, but he did it. My heartfelt condolences go out to Mr. D'Souza's family, my thoughts and prayers are with you all. I am deeply saddened to learn of Mr. D'Souza's passing. Mr. D'Souza was one of my favourite teachers at FMM. I had Mr. D'Souza for Grade 12 Data Management. Mornings were never my thing, but homeroom with Mr. D'Souza made it just a little easier. Mr. D'Souza would make classes light by telling us funny stories or make jokes in between his lessons. Mr. D'Souza was passionate about teaching, and genuinely wanted to help each and every one of his students.
Since hearing about Mr. D'Souza's passing, I have talked to my family members who have gone to FMM and reconnected with classmates from FMM and everyone has nothing but great remarks for Mr. D'Souza. There are many people who went to FMM and did not have the privilege of having Mr. D'Souza as their teacher but remember him by his friendly greetings as he walked pass students in the hallways.
Sir, you have touched the hearts of so many students from your time at FMM. Thank you for making math class enjoyable. Thank you for always being a friendly face. Thank you for always going the extra mile for your students. You will be GREATLY missed.

My condolences and love to the D’Souza family. Mr. D’Souza has been an inspiration to me not only academically, but also with his driven, fun, energetic, caring, selfless, relational personality. Throughout my years at FMM, he has been a support and mentor to me and many other students over the years. The jokes, stories, and lessons that Mr. D’Souza has shared over the years has brightened many of us up, and brought us new insight. Though I am not in a field where math is primary, having hated math when I was younger, D’Souza had made it fun, and interesting. The memories that were shared throughout the years, the support and guidance, the passion and drive is unmatched.
He was always up for a challenge, creating and inventing new things as he goes to make things convenient, his smart board project, website, other smaller projects. He would come into class happy and with an infectious smile that brightens up the class, and does his classes with such passion and drive to when he was upset, you knew it was because he wants the best for us, and wants us to thrive, putting our best foot forward and ensuring that we understand the material, but also providing an environment that allowed students to feel empowered, accountable, and capable.
I was able to visit FMM twice after I graduated as my brother was a student as well, and am glad to have had the opportunity to chat with him for a bit. Though Mr. D’Souza has passed, his legacy and memory will live on through those who have had the chance to meet him. May his soul Rest In Peace.

Mr. D’Souza was a teacher, a mentor and an amazing person overall. He was my first math teacher at FMM but taught me all the way through. He had a way of teaching that made sense. He stayed before school, after school and taught me the following years although wasn’t my teacher anymore. He went above and beyond. It truly makes my heart break. I talk about him to everyone because I had never met any teacher who care for his students with all his heart. He made us laugh, he made us think. The news of Mr. D'Souza passing is an unthinkable tragedy that is hurting everyone who knew him tremendously. I know him to be an amazing math teacher who always cared for his students and pushed them to reach their goals and dreams. Even when we were struggling through tough lessons and tests he always reminded us of the bigger picture and how important it was to believe that you are capable of doing amazing things. He was there for his students even when he was burdened by his own personal troubles, because he wanted to make sure that his students were looked after. I've never known a person to be so selfless, caring, and humble. His jokes and love for prime numbers will never be forgotten in the lives of students he helped everywhere. Not only was he a fantastic teacher overall, but he brought with him a light and energy that could be matched by no other. Everyday he would come into class with a smile, and share stories and jokes that would turn any bad day into the best day. Mr.D’Souza will be missed dearly, and he will always be remembered, especially as the best and my favourite teacher I’ve ever had. He meant so much to myself and peers, he was a teacher, mentor, and friend - someone who’s kindness, curiosity, creativity, and brilliance made a mark on everyone that he met. I was absolutely blessed to have Mr.D’Souza as my teacher, and I owe so much of my success to him being able to see my potential and inspiring me to always reach the next level.
In university I pursued Computer Science because of the strength and confidence in maths that Mr.D’Souza helped me gain, and my trajectory in life was shifted from the first class I attended with him as my math teacher. I eagerly wanted to meet Mr.D’Souza in September as I finished my undergraduate studies and start my career, to share my joy, happiness, and appreciation to him, and hear as many jokes as I could as he sipped on his classic Sanpellegrino drinks.
I remember one time when I got upset that he postponed a test because he felt we weren’t prepared, yet I was adamant I wanted to try it. He humbled me afterwards when I did miserably on the mock test, yet he didn’t show any negative feelings, all he wanted to do was ensure that myself and the class would have all the knowledge and preparation to do the test by giving us as much help as possible that he could. In that moment I saw his kindness and readiness to help students get back on their feet and I’m so thankful that he always put in the extra effort with a smile on his face.
I always remember for Student Appreciation Day Mr.D’Souza would have a laugh that it was ‘S.A.D’ day and make sure to ask us what day it was so that we would giggle a bit too.
When I asked Mr.D’Souza to be my supervisor for my Extended Essay he didn’t hesitate and made sure that I had all the help I needed. He took extra time and responsibility without any incentive other than to help me out because he wanted to.
As a class we always loved getting sidetracked after he finished teaching and hearing about his pets and his personal projects, most notably from my memories was the DIY smart board that he made at home (an absolute genius).
With his button up shirts and cross shoulder side-bag, he came into every class with a certain rhythm and pip in his step ready to help us become better and make us laugh.
He was a tinkerer and could’ve became anything he wanted to, I can definitely imagine him as a renowned engineer, and yet he decided to help the youth of the next generation.
I have so many fond memories of Mr.D’Souza and I’ll always remember him for the amazing teacher and friend that he was.
I know Mr.D’Souza is watching from above, and I hope he knows how much he positively impacted those who were lucky enough to be taught by him. I know I’m extremely lucky to meet such an incredible person. My heart goes out to Mr.D’Souza’s family and friends, my deepest condolences. Heaven has gained a brilliant, optimistic, bright and special soul. ❤️

Mr D’Souza was my all-time most memorable teacher at McGivney. For me he was hands down the best Math teacher…strict but taught very well. But it was after high school where I appreciated him more because 20 years after high school I would run into him every 2 yrs or so and the chit chats were the best. My son attended FMM and Mr. D’Souza would be my eyes for me and every time I went back to FMM I would try to see him even cutting in line to greet him after a parent-teacher interview. I seen him this past Jun 28 at my son’s graduation. At the end of the ceremony, he came to look for us. I am glad he did. Mr. D’Souza rest peacefully and know you have a special place in my life as one of the BEST teachers. I will never forget your smiles, how you tease me and your jokes. Condolences to the D’Souza family during this time.

Mr. D'souza was one of the best teachers Mcgivney had to offer. He was a shining star both as a professional and as a person. One of the best humans ever to walk this earth. I wish him eternal rest and peace.

Mr. D'Souza was my math teacher almost every year I was in high school a few years ago. His kindness, humour and knowledge made me look forward to going to class each day. He always had each students best interest in mind and is one of the reasons I decided to become a teacher myself. I am eternally grateful to have gotten the opportunity to learn not only math but valuable life lessons from him. My deepest condolences go out to his family and friends <3
