I met Lance in 1989 at CFMT, we automatically clicked and became good friends because I was a fast editor and he had lots of promos to do so he was always happy because we finished lots of work in a short time.
We later worked on several projects for the station and outside. In 1991 I finished my recording studio and he gave me my first commercial for Alarm Force.
Lance left the station and then we met at the CFMT Christmas party in Dec 2003 and he told he was working on a documentary and wanted me to make orchestral music for the doc. I thought he was joking!
A few months later, he called and said I have the VHS ready with Time Code. I said what VHS? He said the documentary “D-DAY Canada’s 24 Hours of Destiny” I told you about. I had never done anything like that before but the knowhow was in my DNA.
I finished the music, he loved it, Global TV executives loved it, it aired all over Canada, viewers called Global TV asking which John Williams CD (Star Wars, ET, Home Alone, Jaws, +50 more) has this music!
Later released as a bestselling book by Lance, on VHS & DVD, sold over 10,000 copies in Canada, highest selling DVD in Canada and also included in the library in every Canadian Embassy worldwide.
Full documentary on YouTube.

In 2005 we did another one same as above. “Canada and the Liberation of the Netherlands”
Lance gave me my dream job not once but twice.
In Jan 2022 I took out my old tax papers to shred them and every day I say: “tomorrow I’ll do it”.
The day we said goodbye to Lance I came back and started shredding the papers and I found a copy of the D-DAY invoice I gave to Lance as if he was saying “Thank you for coming”. I will always cherish this paper. This is the 3rd time a deceased person communicates with me.
Thank you Lance for everything, you will always be in our hearts.

Deepest sympathies from my husband, Bill Grier and myself. Bill and I both worked with Lance in the edit suite back at TVO. Things I remember about Lance, he was always professional, soft spoken even if something or someone had irked him. We both loved the breakfast sandwiches from the Output. He loved a good laugh and enjoyed chatting about his trips, Beaumont, and family. He loved his Mercedes that he bought as a gift to himself for writing the books. I remember his kindness taking me in the Mercedes to the hospital when my mother needed an emergency medical procedure. We will both miss him.

Our condolences to Jane, Ethan, Cameron, and family
What Michael and I Admired about Lance was his love of Dogs. If you had the pleasure of meeting his Newfoundland dog, sweet Sam, or his most recent Newfoundland dog beautiful Beaumont, you would know why. They were awesome dogs! They were treated like Royalty ! Those dogs won the lottery when it came to Pet Parents !!! Lance seemed to LOVE BIG DOGS, as he seemed quite fond of our St.Bernards as well. They loved him! Animals know good, kind people. Lance had such compassion for all animals, and it showed in his treatment of his dogs and other dogs. When Beaumont's health was failing, our Saint, Barney,(Beaumont's great friend) would visit Beaumont at the back of their house via the schoolyard. I think Lance knew they were communicating with one another . Lance seemed to understand animals. May they meet again, Lance and his dogs, and walk in peace together.
R.I.P.Lance, friend to all dogs
Our Deepest Sympathy,
The Robertson Family

My most deepest condolences to Jane, Cameron, Ethan and Lance's dear mother and father.
Lance was such a sweet kind heart and friend. He was not only my colleague but part of a dear family of friends made at TVO.
Over the many years of working with Lance, we would share in each others life milestones and learn about each other's families. When I became a new parent he offered so much wonderful helpful tips and advice with laughter and support.
Lance was an awesome wizard at work always creating well-crafted memorable pieces. He was a powerhouse to have on the team with us and it was always exciting to see what he would come up with next. For all those many years that we worked together at TVO, it was the little moments and daily giggles and talks about ideas, hopes, our family lives, analyzing movies and shows, sharing photos of incredible trips and family pics that truly made each day. I miss those times and I will sincerely miss Lance.
With love always,
Christine Charles

Jane, Cameron, and Ethan, I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm completely devastated over the news of Lance’s passing. He was not only my Producer and cubicle neighbour for 4 years at TVO, but such a dear supportive friend and lovely person. I feel like I know you all intimately from hearing about your epic trips, and what the boys were up to, interested in, and planning to do. We definitely chatted about you more than we did our work! Ha! But it was so great to work with Lance too. I designed the motion graphics for his spots, and Rein was our editor. Along with the other producers Christine, Tom, and Kathleen, we were a tiny but mighty team! He was so enthusiastic about every spot we would work on together. He was always smiling and excited, and always produced spots with so much heart - and it always showed! (We won loads of Promax BDA local awards together to prove it!)
I feel like he lived his life with so much love - for his family, for travelling, for animals, for his work. I especially loved hearing about the animals he met and photographed. (I aspire to hug a baby elephant one day - because it clearly stole his heart!) I always admired his passion, talent, and can-do attitude toward just about everything! I have so many great memories of Lance, whether we were commiserating about work politics, or laughing up a storm, scheming at TVO trivia nights, or cramming into a car to get California Sandwiches... He was such a wonderful friend and I'm going to miss him dearly.
I left TVO before Lance did, but I saw him again shortly before I moved to Laguna Niguel, California this past August. I had a small going-away get together with Lance, Tom, Christine, Kathleen, and Rein (our old TVO crew!) for the first time since before the pandemic. It was so great hanging out together again. Lance looked great, was super excited about his new Tesla, and seemed as happy as ever! I’m devastated that it would be the last time I saw him, but I’ll remember his smiling face forever, along with his kindness and support. I won’t be able to travel for the visitation, but am making a donation to the World Wildlife Fund in Lance’s honour. Please feel free to reach out to me if I can offer any other support now or in the future. I’m not sure if the boys were ever thinking about working in the U.S. at all (there are quite a few big video game companies here) but feel free to pick my brain about visas and things like that, or of course, we can just chat about Lance!)
With love,
Liz Hayward

Our little ball hockey team. Every weekend behind Parkway Plaza lead by our ‘Captain’ Lance. Like most kids in Canada we won many Stanley Cups behind that plaza pretending to be our favourite NHL players, a time of innocence.
Lance unfortunately never got to see our beloved Maple Leafs hoist Lord Stanley’s Mug although I’m sure he dreamed of it often as a child.
Condolences to his wife Jane, sons Ethan and Cameron, his Dear Mother and Father and his many friends.
Rest Peacefully my friend.

My memories of Lance are from many years ago when we worked together on promotions at then CFMT. I specifically remember the Arsenio Hall promos, where he challenged me as an editor with innovative ideas and wouldn’t give up til it was as he imagined it. He always pushed himself to make his work stand out. And yes as others have said he was a great story teller. When I started working in 1986, Jane was on my team in the broadcast library. Then we both became editors and have worked together for over 3 decades. I was always astounded by their passion for travel. I wish Jane, Cameron and Ethan peace as they keep Lance in their hearts and minds as they continue to tell those stories. My deepest condolences to all the family.

I’ve truly enjoyed working with Lance for the past 2 years. We have never met in person but I got to know his kindhearted gentle voice which I will remember. He would use his voice to temp in the voice over on videos to make sure his shots lined up with the script.
We would have conversations about Travelling, our giant dogs, Disney, Lego, his new Tesla, work he was proud of he would give me advice for my son. And told me stories how all your sons friends would come to your place to hang out and was the place to be! If I saw Lance was calling I would make sure I didn’t have a meeting anytime soon after as I knew we would chat for a good while which I enjoyed!
He was extremely talented and professional. I loved meetings where he pitched his concepts for video spots! I’ll never forget reading his idea for the women at work campaign. It gave me goosebumps! He always could weave our work together so seamlessly and he could do everything so fast! It’s like he cut the video in his head and just needed to put all the pieces together in his premier.
He would jump in wherever he could! We needed a clip of someone waving bye bye to 2020 for our holiday video so he went outside in the cold snow in his holiday sweater and shot himself waving goodbye and sent me 10 clip options! I didn’t even ask for it and he was just always willing to help where he could to make the spot perfect!
I’m so sad you are gone Lance, you left this world far too soon. I wish we had the chance to meet in person.
My sincerest condolences to you Jane, Ethan and Cameron.
Rest In peace Lance. Your memories will continue to live on.

My condolences to the Goddard family.
I knew Lance from as early as high school film class at Wexford Collegiate. I admired his work from his earliest days at CFMT, Alarmforce and through TVO Ontario and his many years as an independent producer and writer. Over the years I had the pleasure of working together with Lance on several of my projects and I must say that he represented all the best in professionalism. He was multi-talented, knew his craft well and was a true gentleman. The video industry and the world at large has lost a great man.

A selection of photos from my summer holiday trips in 1999 and 2001. One from Cameron and Ethan's birthdays in 99. One at Fort York 2001. The group photo at Kay and Colin's in 1999 I've always loved. The portrait was a trip to the CN tower in 2001. And a fun one from 1999 at the old house - the joys of camera timers! haha
Thank you Lance for all hospitality and opportunities to come and visit with you all those two summers. You shared your love of film with me, making sure I caught up on all the must sees from the vast collection of films you built up. I remember us going to see Blair Witch fresh at the cinema after all reports of people fainting it was meant to be so scary! I think the first time I even realised end credit scenes were a thing was when we saw phantom menace - and I spent the rest of the holiday re-enacting the Darth Maul fight with Ethan. I also seem to remember you teasing Ethan mercilessly over his crush on Natalie Portman!
An awesome sense of fun, a dark sense of humour. A huge professional talent. Gone far too soon. RIP Lance

It was as a real pleasure to meet you even if it was only for a few weeks when we visited from the UK.
One stand out moment was the the hilarity that was the Cards Against Humanity evening that we all had, and my my Lance you certainly had a dark sense of humour which I absolutely loved and some of your choices had us all in stitches laughing.
We will be back over the pond soon and will raise a glass to you and the amazing life you led and the many lives you had such positive impact on!

It was an honor and privilege to work with you at Global Television. Your promos were extraordinary and I enjoyed lending
my voice over to the finished product. I recall when I was on Facebook looking at your marvelous adventures in travel.
I was in awe at the exotic destinations you ventured to. To say you will be missed is an understatement.
You always carried a warm attitude towards everyone you came in contact with. You loved life, had a passion for animals and embraced life in a way many of us will never.
Although we have not seen each other or worked together for about 22 years, I still remember those golden creative moments
when you would direct my reads to the promos you cut, creating an outstanding promo for Global TV.
I know that your family will stay strong and continue to prosper for they had the best leader, father, and husband a family could ask for.
You were a man of extreme principle and honor!

I remember, when we were children and you'd come to visit with your parents, the way Grandad would pick you up. I remember how you gave me wonderful books that you had outgrown but were just perfect for me. I remember your artwork and you with a camera. I followed your work and proudly read your books and watched your documentaries. I loved to see the wonderful photos of your family, pets and travels. You were exceptional in every way, cousin, and I can scarcely believe that you are gone.
