Ms. Siu Yun Chang 朱張秀雲太夫人

Obituary of Ms. Siu Yun Chang 朱張秀雲太夫人

Please share a memory of Ms. Siu Yun Chang to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

After a brief health struggle, we have lost our great matriarch Chang Siu-Yun at the age of 99.  She passed away peacefully with her loving daughters holding her hands by her side on Thursday, May 19th.

She was born to Chang Chi Jung and Wu Lan Yin on October 26, 1922 in Guangdong, Meizhou, China.  At the age of 20, she married Chu Chin Yuan, whose death preceded hers in 1986.  From 1952, the couple lived together in India for 39 years.  During this time, they worked together to run a successful shoe manufacturing and retailing business, all while growing the family.

A second migration followed to Canada in 1991.

Her family has flourished to a very large brood of daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had 8 daughters, 19 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren and was a loving and caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to each one of them.  Her kind heart was open to all and the well-being of others was always on her mind.

Chang Siu-Yun was well regarded and respected by her friends and family.  Her guidance and wisdom were sought by all.  She loved having large gatherings and getting to cook for everyone until she physically could not do it anymore.  Her travels took her to many places in Europe, China, Australia, United States, Southeast Asia, and more.  She enjoyed playing poker, blackjack and mah-jong and had great stamina, as she was able to stay up well into the early hours of the morning at casinos.

We will miss her love, kindness and the smile she always had on her face.  May her soul rest in peace with God in Heaven.

We immensely appreciate all the kind words of comfort and condolences from everyone, near and far.  It has helped us to cope with the loss of our great matriarch.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers and/or wreaths, a donation be made to the charity of your choice instead.
