It was an absolute pleasure to have known Ah Pho!! I will always remember her say: "Ah Pho yeet hao, Lianne hao mo?" in Hakka which means: "Grandma is very good, Lianne are you good?"
Whenever we met Ah Pho, she was always happy and positive. Her radiant and warm smile will always remain in our cherished memories! We will never forget her kindness and love for us. Although it is extremely difficult to see Ah Pho leave us, we are also glad that she will be reunited with Ah Kung and our Mom, her daughter - Ai Chao in Heaven.
We will miss you a lot, Ah Pho!! We will meet again in the kingdom of Heaven, until then, may your soul rest in eternal peace.

The Chiu family New Year celebration was always graced by Chu Pho’s super welcoming presence. Even though we met infrequently, she treated us like family who just met the other day. Each & everyone (old or young uns or babies) were welcomed with her warm smile, kind teasing words, a squeeze of a hand or a hug. She built memories with us with her stories of the past & present. She will be remembered fondly in our memories & always in our hearts. Chu Pho, rest in peace & continue to be the guiding light to all.
With love & respect, the Chiu family

Dear Jenny and other sisters,
Someone wiser than me has said, "Those we love don't go away. They walk beside us everyday, unseen, unheard, but always near, still loved and missed and very dear."
She was a great blessing and, as you mourn the loss of your mother, may memories of her loving care warm your hearts and, in turn, inspire you to carry on her legacy to all around.
May she Rest In Peace!

Your spirit and will still burn strong within each one of us and although you will be terribly missed, I am very glad that you passed peacefully and may you rest easy knowing that you left behind a remarkable legacy.

Mom, I have always admired your strength, your intelligence and your business acumen. Amongst us sisters we’ve always said that had you received a proper education you would have made something even greater than what you have made out of your life. The strength you exhibited when dad passed away was beyond admirable.
You were worried you will not live long enough to see my children. You not only welcomed Brendan, your last grandson of the brood, you took care of him from when he was 6 months old until he started grade 1. I remember when Brendan was about 9-months old, Richard and I were going to Hawaii on vacation and you adamantly said that we were not going to take Brendan with us because he was too young to travel and you would take care of him. You were in your seventies then and we understand it was not easy to take care of a 9-month-old at that age. Thank you, mom! I love you and will miss you dearly!!

A life is kept memorable by the people left behind. For Chu Po Tai, it is not a question of who knew her, it is about who did not know her. She was larger than life and she lived it well.
My first memory of her was meeting her at Aunt Lily’s house. Michelle and I were dating then and she came out to greet me by calling my Chinese name Chu, Wei-Hing. It always sounded so nice and smooth. I will miss her kidding me by saying “this is the one” in Chinese referring to Michelle. I will miss hearing that. She treated me like one of the family then and always after. I grew up without a grandmother present. So she became my surrogate grandmother and I love her with all my heart.
There are so many memories of my sons’ birthdays that she was so proud to be part of as she was Chu Po Tai. She loved my three boys, always enquiring about how they are doing and what they are studying. In turn, my boys always asked about their Ah-Tai. They really missed seeing her during the pandemic.
I will miss her cooking vermicelli soup for me as she knows I love that. Even when she was getting along in age, she was still happy to cook for her family and grandchildren.
We will all miss her in the casinos where she had more stamina staying awake than much younger players. We will miss playing Texas poker with her where she had taken us all down at one time or another. There were loads of fun, lots of laughter and tons of memories of her.
One of Michelle’s precious memory is her visit to Berhampur every summer vacation when they were young. She and her siblings always looked forward to spending time with Ah-Po and Ah-Kung knowing that she would be spoiling them with delicious food, endless stories and fun time. Michelle’s fondest memory is of her playing with them in the courtyard singing ‘Yang nge may may” and ‘Ngat kwon kwon’. Michelle’s forever glad to have spent these beautiful moments with her while growing up and will always treasure these memories in her heart.
Chu Po Tai seemed to know everyone and was well regarded in the community. We never saw her truly angry and was always at peace with everything and everyone. We honour her by remembering the joyful memories and good deeds she has done. We will miss her endless smile, laughter and kindness. Most of all, she was a devoted mother who loved her daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren. That’s the legacy she leaves behind.
We love and miss you Ah-Po. May you rest in peace for eternity.

Hi Lily, Richard and Brendan:
You are in our thoughts and prayers at this very sad time with the loss of your dear mother and grandmother …. Chu Pho, one great matriarch who shared so much with so many families. Thank you Lily for sharing your mom with all of us. May you find solace in all the joyful memories you shared with her
Our September 2005 travels with Chu Pho to Meixian will never be forgotten. It still brings so many smiles of the fun we shared – how can we forget Chu Pho’s command at Meixian airport making sure we were not bullied by Mandarin speaking staff; her personal hospitality extended showing off her Meixian
The Chiu siblings and their families enjoyed the many Chinese New Year celebrations with their Chu Pho at 18 Shallice – we were all blessed with her presence
We will miss her very much; and at the same time we all wish her eternal peace in Heaven.
Willie & Ellie; and families

Chu pho, you have always been such a pillar of strength and source of wisdom and inspiration for our family. You graced our lives with 99 years filled with unconditional love (sometimes tough love!) and taught us the value of family, compassion, and the importance of being a principled person. Rest in peace Chu pho, your legacy will forever live on in our hearts and memories.
