Obituary of Mr. Danko Zwir

Please share a memory of Mr. Danko to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Passed away suddenly at the age of 68 in Toronto, Ontario on the evening of April 30, 2022. Beloved husband to Karen, loving father of Stephen (Katie) and Rachel, and affectionate grandfather to Isla and Edward.

Born in Toronto on July 5, 1953, Danko was the only child of World War II refugees. His mother tongue was Ukrainian, and he particularly embraced his heritage through his mother's traditional cooking. As a young adult he was heavily involved in the Ukrainian church, providing leadership to the regional youth camp ministry and serving as an associate pastor. He met the love of his life at Bible college, and they married soon after graduation in 1978.

When his employer refused him time off for his month-long honeymoon, he quit. After 4 weeks of sunshine he returned to a new job at Alcan (now Gentek) in credit management where he continued to work for his 43 years of marriage.

He loved fatherhood and treasured playtime with his grandchildren, always managing to work from home on days when they came for a visit. An avid amateur photographer, he cherished nature walks to capture rainbows, clouds, sunsets, and flowers, but his favourite subjects were family and polar bears. His passing from a heart attack was sudden, and he is greatly missed.

Donations in his memory can be made to his favourite charity, SGA Canada, which is providing relief to the people of Ukraine at this time.
