John Clinton Jamieson

February 3, 1935 – April 5, 2022

With heavy hearts we are very sad to announce the passing of John Clinton Jamieson on April 5, 2022 at SHN Birchmount Hospital, at the age of 87. Married to Margaret, the love of his life, for 65 years. Together they raised Nancy, David (Monique) and Jim (Lynne). John was a cherished grandfather of Amanda (Kevin), Jessica, Kayli, Esther (Tom), Christy (Mack), Luke (Sara), and great-grandson James. He bragged about his family often and was delighted they all shared his love of Muskoka, a special place as well to his dear late brothers Bill (Aileen) and Rae (Midge), in-laws Ruth Wells (Bill) and Rob McGinn (Louise), and families. John will also be greatly missed by many nieces, nephews and friends.

John was a retired math teacher primarily at Winston Churchill CI, Scarborough Board of Education, and was loved by both his students and colleagues. First, however, he graduated from the University of Toronto with a degree in Engineering, beginning his career at Honeywell (forevermore talking about his work connected to the ill-fated Avro Arrow). He was a strong supporter and promoter of Margaret’s accomplishments as an artist and singer. Together they shared a love of travel, and delighted in exploring North America and Europe for many years. One of John’s biggest joys was working on various cars and boats, both for himself and others, to the point that his children knew every auto wrecker within a 200 km radius. His favourite place on earth was his Muskoka cottage, where he spent many winters snowmobiling and cross-country skiing, and summers helping his children, nieces and nephews, neighbours and guests learn to waterski without serious injury. He continued to waterski himself up until his mid-60’s. When he wasn’t participating in sports he was watching them, particularly his beloved teams the Toronto Blue Jays, Raptors and Maple Leafs. You could be sure to find him in front of the tv at game time, even if sometimes with his eyes closed! John will be missed and remembered with laughter and love.

Visitation will be held at Ogden Funeral Home, 4164 Sheppard Ave East, Scarborough, Ontario on Wednesday, April 13 at 12:00 p.m. followed by a service to celebrate John’s life at 1:00 p.m. Memorial contributions can be made 1) in John’s name (in the comments section) to Teen Challenge Ontario Women's Centre, a Christian live-in drug and alcohol addictions rehabilitation program. John’s daughter-in-law Monique works there, and 100% of donations will go directly back to it, or 2) Walk It Off: Spinal Cord Recovery and Wellness Centre, a not-for-profit (no receipts can be issued) clinic for spinal cord injury and stroke patients. John’s granddaughter Kayli works there, and 100% of donations will go to the clinic to purchase and upgrade new equipment.
