Obituary of Mrs. Victoria Geness

With profound sadness we announce the passing of Victoria Jardine Geness, our loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to all whose lives she touched, on February 9, 2022. 

Victoria, or “Ronnie” as she was affectionately known by was born on February 1, 1932, to parents Virginia Machado and Henrique Jardine DeCastro.  She was raised and lived in Guyana until relocating to Canada in 1983.   

Loving and devoted wife to Peter Geness.  Cherished mother to her 7 children and their spouses: Elizabeth “Roseann” DeAbreu (Naeem Sattaur), Andrew DeAbreu (Yvonne Shillingford), Vera DeAbreu (Ken Fleming), Gerard “Gerry” (Sharon Meade), Bernadette “Bernie” Sokarijo (Wasis Sokarijo), Joseph “Joey” DeAbreu, and predeceased by Alex DeAbreu.  Ronnie always held a special place in her heart for her first grandchild Alex Sokarijo. Sister and sister-in-law to Gina & Ivan Menezes.  She was predeceased by her nine siblings.  Proud and loving grandmother to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She was predeceased by her grandson, Mark Escourse on June 28, 2005 and great-grandson, Jaden Tjon A Tai on June 19, 2013. Remembered by her many nieces and nephews. 

Ronnie was a devoted Roman Catholic who was passionate and proud of her beliefs.  She accomplished many things in her life, but she was well known for her thoughtful gestures of kindness and empathy to those in need.  She treasured her family and embraced every moment with them.  Ronnie always emphasized the importance of family and keeping traditions going for many more generations to come.   

She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.  Visitation will be held privately by invitation only.
