Vivian....so sad you had to leave us. I've so missed you (and Lorne) coming for Halloween and Pirates and Wenches weekend with your not being able to travel anymore. You always amazed me at how you would keep track of what was going on in MY life and I was your daughter-in-law's sister. It made me feel very special.
You were always a joy to be around and always made me chuckle with your candor.
Even though you were someone that could not be messed with your warmth always came through as well as the evidence that you were a wonderful mother and grandmother and my sister and my nieces and nephews were so lucky to have you.
I especially remember your homemade butter cream icing!!
Rest in Peace and it is consoling that you and Lorne have been reunited.
Love,
Anne Marie Hanlon

In 1960, several young families moved into a neighbourhood of duplexes in Winnipeg, Manitoba. We, along with Vivian & Lorne we’re two of these families. It was a community of babies, noise, uncertainty and fun. Mostly it was a community of support and care. Vivian and Lorne were an important part of this amazing community. The bonds formed were strong. Sixty years later, they were still valued.
Natalie, Jim, David and family, we express our sincere condolences in the death of your Mom and Gramma. We remember your parents fondly. It was great to remember, and laugh with you via telephone.
We were happy Vivian was able to keep her commitment to stay in her home to near the end.
Rest In Peace, dear friend!

Vivian and Lorne have been our neighbours for 24 years and we couldn't have asked for anyone better! Quiet, respectful and never intrusive, they both took an interest in our various home and landscape improvements after we moved next door.
After getting Vivian's blessing a few years ago on changes to the shared garden dividing our driveways, Mike got to work under her "supervision." While creating the new rose garden, Mike unearthed several large landscape rocks which delighted Vivian. She told us she had personally placed these in the garden soon after moving into their Bridlewood home, single-handedly pulling these on a toboggan from the boulevard and rolling these into place! She was feisty, strong, and fiercely independent! Vivian was delighted to see these rocks on display once again. Their prominence will always remind us of her love of the outdoors and the many hours she spent caring for her yard and gardens.
Vivian and Lorne took pride in their family and the accomplishments of their children Jim, Natalie and David. They adored their grandchildren and Lorne never missed an opportunity to share photos and updates on their graduations, sport accomplishments, and awards. They watched our own kids grow and develop and always expressed an interest in their respective academic/ career pursuits.
In recent years, Lorne's connection with the neighbourhood expanded. As an avid reader, he had acquired many books which he began to share, personally dropping these off at the front door of fellow readers and picking these up before circulating his newest releases. No need to visit the library - just wait for Lorne's latest drop-off!
Vivian and Lorne have been a part of our community and their passing will be sorely missed. Our deepest condolences go out to Jim, Natalie and David and family. Sincerely, Mike and Christine Bell

Thank you for being the best mother-in-law a girl could ask for. Thank you for all the time you devoted to your grandchildren. While our visits were not as frequent as we would have liked due to our distance apart, you made each one memorable. The kids have fond memories of being with you including pumpkin seed baking during your visits at Halloween, the crafts you would bring for them on your trips south, the wonderful dinners in your dining room, and you letting MoJo up on the Chesterfield complete with pillow and blankets, making sure she was sitting high enough to see and bark at the world passing by while David, Natalie and Jim were never allowed to sit on the couch growing up (ha ha ha, you guys!). When we would come for a visit, you made the kids feel right at home, giving them a bed to sleep in as if it were their own bedroom just waiting for their return since the last visit.
Thank you for raising your son to be such a wonderful, devoted husband and father. I know I have you to thank for my NEVER having fallen into a toilet because of a seat being left up - all because of how you raised him : ). When the kids were reminiscing about their favorite memories of you, I know you could hear and were laughing with us. While we are sad at not being able to see you over the last two years and have missed your trips south, we are thankful for all the times we did spend together. I will miss your laugh and your sense of humor and the times we spent together preparing for our annual Halloween festivities including you and me painstakingly pinning that stupid black table skirt around the dining room table EVERY year - because Halloween wouldn't have been complete without it, right?? Most of all, I will miss watching you be the best Grandma you could have been to our children. Your impact on our lives is greater than you will ever know.
Jim, Natalie & David - we are happy that you had these days to laugh and share memories. We look forward to when we are together again so we can celebrate your parents.
