Obituary of Mr. John Mercieca

Following a very fulfilling life, Johnny passed peacefully on Thursday, July 1, 2021 at Providence Palliative Care, Scarborough at the age of 92.  A devoted brother, uncle and friend to many, Johnny will be remembered for his sense of humour, kindness, generosity and love of family and friends.

Born in Paola, Malta, he is predeceased by his siblings George, Charles, Mary and is survived by his brother Francis.  He will be dearly missed and cherished by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and friends in both in Canada and Malta.

He immigrated to Canada in the early fifties where he worked on a fishing boat until he landed employment with the TTC in 1952. He worked tirelessly in the maintenance department until his retirement in 1993.  He was an avid reader and well versed in current affairs.  His love for cooking never ceased. He could often be found preparing home made pasta, bread, soups and watching the Maltese cooking programs.

For anyone who crossed paths with Johnny, there is one thing we can all agree with ~ his heart was big and he was always willing to lend a helping hand.

Johnny was more than an Uncle to many of us.  Losing him has left an emptiness that can never be filled.
