When I think of Johnny, my longtime neighbor and friend, the first words that come to mind are "a true gentleman". My first memory is of Johnny sitting on his white chair on the veranda, looking out over his beautiful pinky red rose bush, discussing the latest goings on of the street and the world, with myself or one of the many neighbors who stopped by to sit on his steps. He was extremely smart, right up to the last day he sadly had to leave us, and gave intelligent opinions on all the latest news and technology. Johnny could also teach you how to fix just about anything! He enjoyed respectful humor (when his hearing aid was turned up), and enjoyed growing veggies, grapes and berries, but shook his head when the local critters got them first! In my early days of knowing Johnny I remember he loved to breed his canaries "for song" and in recent years always bottled the best wine. "But don't forget to bring back the bottle!" His family both in Canada and in Malta were always in his mind and were his pride. He loved to go home each winter and the one regret he had was not being able to make the trip in recent years. Johnny...I look forward to hearing you are back in your cherished homeland soon, so you can rest peacefully in the warm Maltese sunshine. Will miss you and never forget the honor I had to know you, my dear friend.

John was a very good friend for many, many years. I will always cherish the many outings we had together including a trip to the wartime museum in Hamilton. My deepest condolences to his family. May he rest in paradise.

We remember neighbour John for his million dollar smile, the veritable sparkle in his eyes & his beautiful heart. For years, we have admired how--as a nonagenarian himself--he was constantly looking out for his fellow nonagenarian across the street, Bob. John was always ready with a wave from his house to ours. He was thoughtful and generous with our boys on their birthdays, and just because. Please accept our heartfelt sympathy for your loss. He will be fondly remembered by our family. Most sincerely, Tim, Nina, Andreas & Jakob Gregg

Very sorry to hear of Johns passing. Bob and I will miss our breakfast dates on Thursday mornings and our Monday shopping trips not to mention the trips to the barber where John and Bob would get a hair cut and then each of them would try and sneak a $20 to the cashier to pay for both hair cuts. Our condolences to the family.
