Michael John Carr

December 16th,1971 – February 6th, 2021

Written by Alison Werner

On Saturday February 6th, there was a crack in the universe and a hole was created in many hearts.  We had been notified that my brother Michael had passed away unexpectedly. Michael had been battling a challenging illness and due to complications from that, the lord took him to heaven (sorry Mikey….I know you didn’t believe in god, but I do and I plan to see you again).

Michael was born on December 16th, 1971 to parents Arthur and Elizabeth Carr. At an early age, his creative and artistic abilities began to shine through with several pictures and stories illustrating his talent.   In his early teenage years, he developed a passion for Star Wars, Marvel Superheroes, Dungeons and Dragons and video games which fueled his creative side.  He attended high school at Woburn Collegiate Institute(which I believe was a time in his life that he loved the most) where he formed many lasting friendships, had very pretty girlfriends, went to a “few” valley parties and created lifelong memories and laughter that I am sure are still with people today.

Michael attended George Brown College after high school graduating from the Graphic Design program where shortly after that he started his own company called “Vibrant Design”.   A few years later he decided to change jobs and joined Tilley Endurables as their Graphic Designer for all print and social media.  He loved his job there, worked with a great crew of people and he was able to show and display how talented he really was.

A few things you may not have known about Mike are that he was an excellent dresser, changed outfits sometimes three times a day and he loved to iron his clothes, including his jeans.  He loved clothes, shoes, watches and fashion in general. His favourite designer was Tommy Hilfiger because he loved the classic colours and timeless style. He loved listening to Depeche Mode and New Order and his favourite song was ironically “Black Celebration”. His favorite movie is a toss up of Star Wars, A New Hope and Superman. He loved cold meat sandwiches for breakfast and his favourite restaurant was Jack Astor’s. Last but not least, he fiercely loved his cats – Lucy who passed away in 2008 and Daisy whom he adopted with his girlfriend Ruth Bradbury.

Michael was blessed with a wonderful girlfriend named Ruth, whom he met in 2015 and they have been together ever since.  He met his true life’s companion when he met her.  They loved doing things together like cooking awesome meals, binge watching tv shows, going on trips and celebrating the holidays.  Ruth entered into his life at the perfect time and she made the last 6 years wonderful for him.  She was his “go to” for everything and he loved her with all his heart and bought her beautiful clothes and gifts. And he always said “She’s a good girl”.

Mike hands down was the funniest guy you ever met.  He was also the guy with the biggest heart you ever met. I remember calling him so many times saying “make me laugh”, and he would instantly.  The amount of crying belly laughs I had with him are too many to count. We will miss him calling my dad “John Boy” and him making fun of my mom’s “sectors” or calling my husband “Bear”. My boys will miss visiting “Uncle Mikey’s Hotel” and him being their jungle gym.  We will miss his infectious laugh and his ability to make fun of everything and make you laugh so hard you cried. The sheer joy and happiness he brought to me, my husband, my boys, my parents, his girlfriend and his friends is going to be hard to get over.

Trying to sum up his life in a few paragraphs doesn’t seem right or fair, but as I’ve had to sit back and think about his life, the one thing that stands out was his amazing ability to impact so many people’s hearts by just being who he was and that really is his true legacy. My dad said to me one morning, “I won’t miss just one thing, I’m going to miss all of him”.

Mike will be missed and forever loved by his parents, Arthur and Elizabeth Carr, his sister Alison Werner and her husband Nicholas Werner along with nephews Hudson and Noah Werner and by his loving, loyal and doting girlfriend Ruth Bradbury as well as many other family members and friends.

There is going to be a private visitation on Saturday February 13th at Ogden Funeral Home.  Later this summer we will have a celebration of his life at his favourite restaurant “Jack Astor’s” where we will raise a glass to “The Legend”.
