My name is Ranie Sookram known as Golin, the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Totaram Maraj known as Griffin of Blenheim, Leguan. My sisters Indra, Maino, myself Golin, Bish, Molly and my brother in USA Jake join with me in extending our sincerest condolences to the familyof Uncle Amos. Uncle Amos was a gentleman in the true sense; even though the rum shop was very near to our house, I never saw him even once in there, when he comes from work, he is at home with his family cleaning the yard or the garden or with his children. I was teaching at one time at Endeavour Government School, and when I was coming home from school, I would see Uncle Amos outside doing something or the other and I would stop and talk to him and then auntie would come out and join the conversation. I left Leguan in 1965 to work for the Government in Suddie Essequibo and then to General Post Office in Georgetown, I never got to see people in Blenheim when I went home Saturday night and return Sunday and this went on for years until I got married to Pandit Hari Sookram of Berbice and so we both went down from Georgetown to Berbice once in 6 months or so. To make it short, I left for England,spent some years and then migrated to Canada. This is where I met Uncle Amos and Auntie Bhagmatie at Sonna and Rita's house on many occasions at Poojas and then again when Sonna died, Uncle used to enjoy when I sang, he would clap his hands and look so happy. Then when Pandit and I were leaving, he would tell me how nice I sang. I saw them at least 6 times between that family. I know it will be hard for auntie, but she has great children, they would take care of her. After covid is over, I will go with Jean to see her, Jean and Iziquel and I are close, good relationship. Uncle Amos and auntie have great children and they will carry on that good life. God bless the soul of Uncle Amos,and keep auntie safe, we are praying for he, and thanks to Jean and Iziquel for letting us know of Uncle's death. God bless you all. Golin, Uncle Griffin's daughter.
