Obituary of Mr. John David Money
Please share a memory of Mr. John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
MONEY, John David made his final road trip home to heaven and passed away peacefully in his 86th year, on Thursday, October 22, 2020, at Scarborough General Hospital. Beloved wife to Beverley (nee Tully) of 63 years. Cherished Father of Donald (Selma & Efecan). Proud sibling to Joanne (Ray), Robert, and predeceased by Edith, Richard and parents Cyril & Agnes. Well loved Uncle, Brother-In-Law, family at large, garden community, Bridlewood church friends and many others whose lives he touched maybe even just in a brief passing … all will miss him dearly.
Dave’s accomplishments were many, as were his family, friends and those who saw him as their mentor. Next to his family and his love for his faith, flowers (his third love) bloomed in his soul. He headed up the Flower Show and Rose Competition at the CNE for 28 years. He orchestrated the entire Horticultural program at the Loblaws garden centres for 24 years covering stores from Ottawa to Sarnia. He started the Beach Garden Society and Leaside Garden Society with great success. He and Bev were a part of several garden clubs and horticultural societies including the Bulb Society. He was President of the Scarborough Garden Club and the Rose Society, often not once but twice. Dave organized a team to help preserve and protect Ontario’s heritage trilliums in Todd Morden Park. In gardening season, despite the enormous amount of work and pleasure in tending to his own large garden, he could always be found Monday evenings at the Campbell Farm in Scarborough with a team of horticulture friends keeping their large gardens weed free and perfectly manicured as well. He was treated like royalty when honoured with the Ontario Lieutenant Governor’s Volunteer Award at Queens Park in downtown Toronto – something he never asked for but others nominated him for.
Time meant nothing to Dave and he could not be hurried or rushed and always felt there was time for everything he wanted to do or thought should be taken care of. This included his large list of recreational activities including being a fish hobbyist, stamp & coin collector, gardening and his dear love of his own pets plus those strays he cared for along the way.
If one were allowed to have four great loves, Florida was his. Dave and Bev spent 19 years as Florida snowbirds. If health issues and friends & family calling them back home hadn’t won surely he would of loved the Florida sun all year long. His ability to attract friends and share his knowledge in their Florida community and church finds many other Snowbirds & Floridians also mourning his loss.
Due to the restrictions of COVID-19 only a small immediate family service will take place. A Celebration of Life service will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, if you care to make donations in Dave’s name please do so to either Bridlewood Presbyterian Church or The Canadian Cancer Society.
The family thank you for all your condolences. Please help them in remembering Dave by continuing his legacy in all he started moving forward.
John David Money … a life so well lived and a soul never to be forgotten.
