Obituary of Mr. Robert Black
On Saturday, August 3, 2019, after 80 wonderful and fulfilling years, Bob passed away suddenly from heart failure. For 56 years Bob was the loving husband and best friend to Beverley Black (Fiske). He was also the devoted and caring father of Jill Ferguson (Jeff) and Greig Black (Michele), and doting grandfather to his four grandchildren, Evan, Camryn, Olivia and Gareth, whom he adored.
Shortly after graduating high school, Bob joined the Bank of Montreal. His hard work and determination resulted in a 36 year career where he rose to the position of Manager of Commercial Banking for Eastern Ontario.
In addition to a full career and dedication to family life, Bob committed himself to the service of others.
Over the course of almost two decades, Bob was a leader with Boy Scouts of Canada, where he inspired and guided countless boys, including his own son.
For over 35 years at St. Stephen’s Presbyterian Church in Scarborough, Bob fulfilled numerous roles, including the responsibilities of an Elder, supporting the church and its congregation. He was also well known for enthusiastically singing hymns in his unique and off-key style.
Bob also volunteered weekly at Seven Oaks Long-Term Care Home, tending bar for residents and guests over the past 21 years. In recognition for enriching the lives of the residents, The City of Toronto acknowledged his contributions to the community in 2000.
Above all, Bob cherished being a devoted husband, a loving father and especially an adoring grandfather. His love for his family was unconditional and he always made sure that those around him felt it. He delighted in spending time surrounded by immediate and extended family sharing laughter and heart to heart conversations. Everyone in his presence always felt loved and thoroughly accepted for who they were.
Private cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends at Ogden Funeral Home, 4164 Sheppard Avenue East, Scarborough, ON, M1S 1T3, on Saturday, August 10, 2019, starting at 2:00 p.m. The service celebrating Bob’s life will begin at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel, with a reception for guests immediately following. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Bob may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Canadian Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice.
