I knew Gordon Petley for over 50 years. I was working at the Grefton & Co menswear store in Owen Sound and Gord would roll into town full of life to trim our windows. He excelled at his craft and was recognized by many of his peers. It is easy to see how he earned his reputation. All you had to do was watch the pride he took in tying the perfect knot in a tie.Every window display had his signature artistic flair.
Gord made the world a better place and he will be missed very much. he didn't have a bad bone in his body and he was loyal to a fault.
The last time I saw Gordy was at Wildfire Golf Club. I had sponsored the PGA Canadian golf tournament and as always, he was eager to volunteer and help out. That was classic Gord, always the first to lend a helping hand to a friend or colleague. He was a great mentor to many display people that worked for him.
Gordy would never tire is telling me "i never missed a budget, never missed a day at work."
God bless you my friend. Rest in Peace.

My heartfelt sympathies to Pauline and Gord’s family. I worked with Gord on and off for 15 years and he was always more of a second Dad than a boss. He started me off on my Visual Merchandising, Marketing, and Management career when I was only 18 in 1983 in Regina SK. He took a chance, took me under his wing and taught me my trade. Always a going concern, in a good way, his antics and sense of humour kept us going at work and beyond. He was definitely larger than life and the world is smaller place without him.

Pauline, Kim, Gord Jr, and all extended family, I am sorry for your loss.
I will always remember uncle Gord's laughter and quirky sense of humour, his sense of adventure and fun, his ability to make anyone around him feel important and at ease, his vain attempts to play Risk at the family games nights, his leadership and value to the Petley family, and most importantly, his selfless heart of gold.
I wish I could be there today to remember him with you but know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.
Mum (Marilyn), I also wish that I could be there with you as you mourn the loss of your brother. He was special to you and I know the absence of your frequent talks will be missed. My prayers are with you as well. I love you.
Dave, Shane and Braden.

I met Gord circa 1973 at scarborough town center where I was checking in on Johnny O. We proceeded to the Windsor House picking up Tyrone Power at Eglington sq. on the way. Had trouble locating my car the next morning. We fixed Jack Coutts flat tire in the parking lot of Mic Mac mall (get him back to T.O.) toured the east coast several times, wrestled in Moncton, met the "brillo pad" in PEI brought Northern Ont to its knees and flew home first class ( Gord handled that). It has been brilliant to be at the rodeo my friend. Love ya man!

We will miss Gord so much but I am grateful he left us with so many wonderful memories. Our vacations to Myrtle Beach, St Maartin and Jamaica come to mind and we will treasure thoughts of all those nights sitting with him by the fire at the trailer. We still cannot grasp that days shared with him have come to an end but we will never forget his smile, his keen intelligence and especially his profound kindness. We were honoured you shared your life with us and we were privileged to call you our friend. Our deepest condolences to Pauline and his family. The sky has one more bright star tonight.
