Passed away on May 9, 2018 in the comfort of his home and in the tender care of his family. Born in Winnipeg to James and Queenie (nee Newsome), survived by brother John for whom he greatly cared and admired. Sorrowfully missed by Irene (nee Innes), after 66 years of happy marriage, children Jim (Alison), Margaret, Paul (Nancy), Lisa (Roderick), Virginia (Martin) and Stephen, grandchildren Michael (Gizelle), Sean (Meredith), Andrew (Melissa), Timothy, Matthew and Gillian, great grandchildren Clara, Amelia and Ewan; Chace and Blake; and James and Isabelle. James (Al/Jim/JAG) completed his B.Sc. and B.Ed. at the University of Manitoba and was a Geologist with Hudson Bay Mining & Smelting (Flin Flon, Manitoba) and then with Noranda Mines (Toronto). He loved his profession and formed warm and lasting friendships with his colleagues. Jim was a gracious, patient, kind, quiet and gentle man. He and Irene loved to travel. They treasured the many friends they made in their social and community clubs and were always eager to help others.
The family wishes to thank all of Jim’s kind and compassionate caregivers, especially: Nurse Practitioner Barbara Berends; Dr. Bruce Magee and his assistants Anita and Lorena; Dr. Ashok Mukherjee, his energetic and helpful former assistant Deborah and the staff at CorCare; Dr. Sandra Marcus (Palliative Care Doctor); as well as all of the Nurses (Farooq and Maureen), PSWs and Staff with St. Elizabeth and Ontario Nursing Services.
