Obituary of Mrs. Jean Lynch
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Jean Lynch, beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend on December 21, 2024 at Oshawa Lakeridge hospital. Though she will be missed by those who knew and loved her, we take comfort in the knowledge that she is now in the presence of her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Carolyn (Michael), her son, Colin (Virginia) and her cherished grandchildren, Justin and Christian. She will also be missed by her siblings, friends, colleagues, neighbours and many nieces and nephews in Canada, the United States, Trinidad, France and Brazil.
Born in Port of Spain, Trinidad on May 28, 1936, to George and Enid Newton, Jean was the second of six children (George, Angela, Althea, Joan and Kelvin). From an early age, Jean had a talent for sewing, a passion she would continue to pursue until the end of her life. She was also a brilliant student and life-long learner, earning diplomas and certificates in accounting, fashion design, cake decorating and more. After finishing school, she worked in the Treasury department of the government of Trinidad & Tobago before moving to Montreal, Canada to get married.
After working at Sun Life Insurance in Montreal for 10 years, she moved with her husband and children to Toronto. She got a job at CIBC, where she worked for over 25 years before retiring in 1999. She developed many cherished friendships throughout her life, from her childhood, working years, church participation, hobbies and shared interests.
Jean loved to travel, and visited many exotic locations, including Jamaica, Barbados, Cuba, Egypt, Turkey, Greece and Israel, with her frequent travel companion and closest friend, Janet Lockhart (who predeceased her by only a few weeks). She explored western Canada from Calgary, Banff and Salt Spring Island to Vancouver and other parts of British Columbia with her cousin Paul Lewis and his wife Jill Wyatt. She went on guided tours to Quebec and to the east coast of Canada with her good friend and colleague Evelyn Gaynor and took cruises with her friends Lynette Wright and others.
Always independent, Jean lived in Scarborough with her two children, then on her own in the same home for 40 years. Jean was a born-again Christian and lived a life of faith. She trusted fully in God’s promises, sharing the love of Jesus Christ with everyone she met. She believed in prayer and often prayed with her close friends Stella Miggins and Angela McLennon. She lived her faith and donated to local and international charities and helped many people over the years, from family to colleagues, neighbours and even strangers. She was a dedicated and faithful member of Global Kingdom Ministries (formerly Scarborough Gospel Temple) for nearly 45 years.
Jean has now been called home to dwell forever in the shelter of the Most High. She will be deeply missed but forever cherished in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Rest in peace, in the loving arms of your Saviour.
The family is grateful to Ogden Funeral Home for their compassionate care during this time. We would also like to express our appreciation to Pastor Lennox John (Faith Alive Christian Centre) for conducting the service and Pastor Bob Johnson (Global Kingdom Ministries) for his ministry over the years.
