Mahadai (Barbara) Itwar, born on September 25, 1932, in Anna Regina, Essequibo, Guyana, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones on December 15, 2024, in Toronto, Ontario. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend whose warmth and kindness touched the lives of everyone she met.

 

Daughter of Samundri Seepersaud and a devoted matriarch to her family, Mahadai is survived by her two cherished daughters: Teekadai (Tina) Karim and Devi (Debbie) Itwar Singh, her two loving stepsons: Par and Tom Itwar, step daughter in-law Shanta, and nephew Ramesh and his wife Padmini. 

 

Her legacy continues through her:

Grandchildren—Trisha Singh, Sherisse Karim, Khalid Karim, and Vijay Singh.

Granddaughter in-law Alisha Khan.

Step Grandchildren - Ravi Itwar, Mitendra Itwar, Melissa Itwar, Priya Seymour and Kevin Itwar.

Step Granddaughter's in-law - Yolanda and Shenny Itwar. 

Great-Grandchildren: Sariah Haniff, Vishnu Harrydatt, Safeena Nanorajan and Salina Singh.

and Step Great-Grandchildren Rajeev Itwar, Aria Itwar, and Vaughn Itwar. 

Each member of her family carries forward the love that she so generously bestowed upon them.

 

Known for her boundless compassion and generosity of spirit; Mahadai had an innate ability to make those around her feel special. Whether it was through sharing delicious meals or offering comforting words during difficult times; she created an atmosphere filled with love that will forever resonate within the hearts of those who knew her. Cooking was not just a skill for Mahadai—it was an expression of love that brought family together around the table time after time.

 

In addition to being a nurturing presence at home; Mahadai found joy in watching WWE wrestling—a passion that sparked lively conversations among friends and family alike. Her laughter echoed throughout gatherings as she cheered for her favorite wrestlers with unwavering enthusiasm.

 

As we remember Mahadai (Barbara) Itwar today; we celebrate not only the life she lived but also the profound impact she made on all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her kindness will be missed deeply but will continue to inspire us every day as we carry forward the values she instilled in us: compassion for others; strength in adversity; and above all—the importance of family.
