My earliest memory of my AUNTY MAY as we called her was when I was about 5 years old. I recall her as a very kind, loving, patient young lady to whom my brother DONALD , now deceased, and I got VERY emotionally attached.
My father had brought this youngest sister from Goa to SIALKOT, BRITISH INDIA at the time, to assist my mother with childcare. We were more drawn to her than our own mother throughout the years she lived with us.
Because she was an attractive teen, she began getting a lot of attention from the opposite sex, which intensely annoyed my father. Accordingly he sent her to
Karachi to live with her older sister, ESMIE . I can recall feeling great sadness when we learnt our precious aunt was leaving, and as the train chugged out of SIALKOT, I can recall howling brokenheartedly.
The very strong emotional attachment remained till I was a teen because every time we visited KARACHI, I would begin crying days before our departure at the thought of having to part with my dearest AUNTY MAY.
Not until she got married was I able to see her without gut wrenching sadness at the thought of parting.
Over the years I saw her bear CHRISTABEL and PATRICIA , at which point I left for
England . When we met up again in MONTREAL, where we both relocated, she had 6 children and I admired her courage for coming in the dead of winter with a young family to begin life in another country.
The fact that she worked didn’t deter her from inviting me to share the family meal every SUNDAY. My precious aunt was once more in my life until I got married and moved to the U.S.
On every trip to CANADA, the first stop was ALWAYS to see my beloved aunt.
She was such an inspiration of patience, as well as love and her deep faith kept her going through the many hardships she endured without ever murmuring.
After my marriage, when we visited CANADA with my twin daughters, they too grew VERY fond of her and now, as grown women, still cling to the nightshirts , some quite faded from constant wearing, which she gave them over the years, They have adamantly stated they will NEVER discard them, being very sentimental .
On one of my trips I recall AUNTY MAY making a vegetable dish within 15 minutes and when I commented at her speed she said that with a large family she HAD to turn out food rapidly.
Well, my precious AUNTY MAY you ran the race well and are now in the presence of the JESUS who created you.
I know , that upon your passing , you were welcomed into heaven with shouts of joy as you joined your siblings and the words from our SAVIOR “ well done , good and faithful servant, enter into the kingdom I have prepared for you”.
Enjoy your heavenly body which will never know all the
trials of an earthly vessel.
Goodbye precious AUNTY MAY. I shall join you when JESUS calls me home.
