Mrs. Asenath Fray

Obituary of Mrs. Asenath Fray

Please share a memory of Mrs. Asenath to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Asenath Fray was a woman whose life was rich in love, family and faith.

Asenath was born on May 19, 1928, in Bombay, Manchester,Jamaica, she was the daughter of the late Indiana Spencer she had two sisters—Madge and Thelma (Nancy)—and two brothers, Keith and Lloyd. She has one son, Derrick.

In the early 1960s, she met and married Marcus Fray in Jamaica before immigrating to the UK where she worked as a nursing assistant. Then, in the 1980s, Asenath migrated to Canada to be closer to her son, Derrick and his family.

As a member of Morningstar Christian Fellowship Church (Baptist), Asenath continued to be active in her faith. She also volunteered at Centenary Hospital for many years, continuing her selfless work well into her 80s.

Asenath was known for her incredible talent in crochet. It was said that she could crochet even with her eyes closed, a skill she maintained well into her 90s. Many can attest to and may still have pieces of her handiwork.

Beyond her artistic talents, Asenath also loved to cook dishes like oxtail, fried fish, and rice & peas. She would often travel with her friends to purchase fresh fish, and she would cook up a storm.

Asenath loved dressing up, especially in her beautiful hats, and she would never leave a silk or satin scarf behind

Asenath left a legacy of love and kindness that will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

The family of the late Asenath Fray would like to express our deepest gratitude for the overwhelming kindness, love, and sympathy shown to us during this time of loss. Your prayers, words of encouragement, and acts of assistance have been a great comfort.

We also extend our heartfelt thanks to the Morningstar Christian Fellowship Church, the Pastors, and the Visitation Team for their support. Special thanks go to Tony Stacey Nursing Home. As well as the dedicated staff at Centenary Hospital whose compassionate care and attention meant so much to us during her final days.

May God bless each of you as you have blessed us with your presence and love.
