Obituary of Mrs. Edith Maud McHardy

Please share a memory of Mrs. Edith to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

In her 105th year, our beloved mother Edith Maud McHardy (nee Rudd)  passed forward in peace from her earthly presence with us on Saturday, August 31st, 2024.

Pre-deceased by her beloved husband of 59 years, John,  she carried on another 15 years, and went well beyond her centenary.

Beloved Mother to Terence, Angus and Daniel, grandmother to Mathew, Heather, Keira and Adam, great-grandmother to Mason, Nolan and Lilly.

Born October 26, 1919 in Dublin Ireland, she survived the world's first pandemic, and after a career as a skilled office worker, met her future husband John McHardy while volunteering in a soup kitchen operated by a Quaker mission in Dublin.

Thereafter, she  worked in London England while he completed theological studies.

They emigrated to Canada, and our dad became a Baptist church minister in Sault Ste. Marie Ontario.

In the mid 60's they operated the Canadian branch of OMS International, (now One Mission), a missionary society, until retiring in 1984. Mom's excellent office skills were again put to extensive use during this period.

In retirement, they became supportive grandparents to the various families, while making time to visit the UK and Ireland, and across Canada, well into the mid 2000's.

Mom was supported, cared for and very much loved by her care workers at Extendicare Rouge Valley, until her passing into glory.

Visitation will be held on Friday September 6th from 6 pm until 8 pm.

Funeral service will be at 10 am Saturday September 7th, with the interment to follow at Highland

Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Edith Maud McHardy's name to "Rising Sun Food Drive Foundation", at www.risingsunfd.com.
