Obituary of Mr. Maurice Pim FitzGerald
Maurice Pim FitzGerald passed away on August 25th, 2024, at the age of 85 surrounded by family. Born premature, he was sent home not expected to survive, but flourished under the determined eye of his mother. He was a Professor of Astronomy and Astrophysics at University of Waterloo, where he was integral in the beginnings of online learning. His research in his fields took him to Germany, Chile, Argentina and Britsh Columbia to name a few. After retiring he enjoyed travelling with his wife to different provinces, Europe, and Latin America. He loved all animals, especially cats and horses.
Pim is survived by his wife, Mercedes Fitzgerald, son Richard FitzGerald (wife Claudia FitzGerald), grandson Jorge FitzGerald, daughter Kady (Kathleen) Gibson, and grandson, Steven Gibson. He is predeceased by both his parents, Maurice and Gwendolen FitzGerald, his sister, Keldine FitzGerald and his granddaughter, Mayela FitzGerald.
Visitation will be held at Ogden Funeral Home in Scarborough on Monday September 2nd from 12pm – 1pm directly followed by the funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Toronto.
