Mrs. Beryl Sundar

Obituary of Mrs. Beryl Sundar

Please share a memory of Mrs. Beryl to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
  • Born Beryl Soorsattie Sundar, known to all as Beryl, on July 30, 1934, she was the youngest child of Hafeezan and Sukhram from Grove Village, East Bank Demerara, Guyana. She grew up with three older brothers and three older sisters.

At 18, Beryl met Basdeo, her first husband, and together they raised six children Jean, the late Neville, Cecil, the late Basil, and the youngest, Debbie and the Late Barat. She also welcomed many sons-in-law and daughters-in-law into her family.

In 1965, as a young widow, Beryl found love again with Patrick Sundar, her soul mate, and they shared 56 wonderful years together.

Beryl's family blossomed to include 27 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren. She was the life of the party, much like the recent hurricane over the Carribean Sea that shares her name—vibrant and unforgettable.

Beryl was determined to provide a better future for her family. She was committed to ensuring her children, grandchildren, and other family members could migrate to Canada, tirelessly working to make it happen.

Her tenacity and spark made her a dynamic presence. Conversations with Beryl could be intense, yet she was someone her loved ones couldn't help but want to be around, despite the occasional love-hate relationship.

Our grandma wanted more for her children and grandchildren. She dreamed of a life of success for us, hoping to change our family's legacy.

In her later years, Grandma enjoyed visiting the casino, often bringing home several jackpots. Her luck and charm were as remarkable as her determination and love for her family.

Grandma wanted a huge celebration for her 90th birthday, and in an ironic twist, she left us just before this milestone.

Together, we celebrate her life and cherish the memories she has left us.

Rest in peace, Grandma, and happy 90th birthday. Your spirit and legacy will forever live on in us.
