Sivapalathevy
(Ranji's Sister In law)
Ranji and I studied at Chundukulli girls' college in the same class. She and her sister Nalayini (kutty) were in the same hostel and I was attending school daily from home. When Ranji comes down from upstairs, everyone knows that she is coming. She dressed neatly. Nalayini is very quiet. Ranji's son, Kumaran married Mafrene. They have two daughters, Aria and Mia. Raj and Ranji visited them before Covid-19. Thurai and I used to visit them at least once a month and stay there for a day or two. Ranji cooked very tasty meals. In the night, we three, Ranji, Thurai and Thevy play Rummy until late night. Ranji was an expert at painting, crafts and patchwork. Anybody who visits her apartment can see the framed paintings on the walls. Ranji, you were very fortunate to have wonderful parents uncle Sivagurunathan and aunty Thilakavathi. Your husband Raj was much attached to you. Although you are not with us, we Thurai, Thevy, our children Thushy, Thamy, our sons in law, Vicky, Deva, and grandchildren Darini and Ashwini will always remember you.

My heart is heavy with grief but also filled with gratitude for the outpouring of love and support we have received during this difficult time. My mother was a remarkable woman who touched the lives of so many, and I am truly blessed to have had her as my rock and my guiding light.
I want to thank each and every one of you for being a part of her life and I ask you to continue to honor my mother's memory. I am deeply moved by the love and support that surrounds me and my family.
To all of our friends and family members who have reached out with kind words, thoughtful gestures, and comforting embraces, thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Let us celebrate my mother's life by holding onto the memories we shared, the love we felt, and the lessons we learned from her. She may be gone from this world, but her spirit will live on in each of us, guiding us, inspiring us, and reminding us of the power of love.
Thank you, once again, for being a part of my mother's legacy. Your compassion and support has brought me and my family comfort and solace during this time of sorrow, and I am forever grateful.

For the past three decades my darling wife Ranji had been meditating to Lord Shiva, and believed with remarkable confidence that when she leaves this world, she will enter the golden kingdom.
Through the practice of Raja Yoga, Ranji understood that the body will end one day and the soul running the body, will be reunited with the supreme Father.
Therefore her soul had no fear to leave the body and go into the hands of the almighty. She has found liberation and self-realization in her death. She was graceful and her dignified self till end of life.
I wholeheartedly believe that when she took her last breadth on the evening of Third July, in my presence, she became a recipient of a place in the new kingdom, a golden kingdom; and the angels sang her to sleep forever.
I thank you for your love, support and condolences; for sharing in the celebration of Ranji's life.

My mother-in-law Ranji, touched the hearts of everyone she encountered, stranger or friend.
Her smile could warm up any room, her touch was a promise of support, her youthful spirit would engage a room of all ages. I will never forget her unwavering dedication and love for her family.
She inspired with her positive spirit, was an adoring grandma to our daughters Aria and Mia. We will forever feel blessed to have called her Mom.
Mom Ranji, your absence leaves a void that your spirit will forever fill, I will miss you terribly.

A Garden of Memories.
dedicated to my Grandma Ranji.
A poem written by Aria Kumaran (13).
In the garden of memories where roses bloom,
Rests my grandma, amidst her family’s cocoon,
Her laughter, her wisdom, forever in my heart
Even though from this world, she had to depart.
She was a beacon, a lighthouse in the storm
Her love, her comfort, always so warm,
Her stories, her food, her cheerful smile
Made every moment truly worthwhile.
Now she’s a star, shining so bright
guiding me gently, through the darkest night,
Her spirit, her love, forever will stay
In my heart, she is never far away.
I yearn for the moments that slipped away
the visits postponed; the words unsaid,
Yet in my heart, you’ll forever stay
a guiding light, a path that’s never dead.
In the silence of this moment, I weep
For the moments lost, the time not spent,
Yet in my heart, your love I’ll keep
A cherished gift, heaven-sent.
Though I miss her, I know she’s free
In a place of peace, as she wanted to be,
Her love is a gift, I’ll forever hold
A treasure more precious than silver or gold.
In every flower, in every bloom
I feel her presence in every room
Her love, her spirit forever near.
In the garden’s beauty, my grandma
Is still here!

Nearly 40 years ago I was a young lad working in Khor Fakkan. When I first met Ranji and her charming hubby, my reaction was "Wow what a lovely couple". Few years later my wife Jeya joined me and we became very close with Raj and Ranji.
Over the years our relationship continued to blossom even further, enjoying many memorable years. Ranji was always very friendly and got along well with everyone. She was always willing to help without any hesitation.
The handsome and very disciplined Raj always stood by Ranji and allowed her to achieve her ambitions. In the last few years Raj has been so great for the way he took care of Ranji.
Proud to see that Kumaran has inherited her qualities as well and resembles her in so many ways.
Jeya and I were able to visit Ranji during our visit to Canada in 2022.
Ranji is always remembered and we are so thankful for the long loving bond we have with her – it was truly more than a friendship to us.
May her soul rest in peace.

Ranji Ammamma was very loved by us here in Melbourne - the younger sister of our grandmother and the aunt of our mother. Her importance to our mother and grandmother is obvious, however she was also important to us. She always made sure we were comfortable in her home and was someone who we could have natural conversation with. We have vivid memories of being in hers and Raj paata’s house, eating pound cake with honey and playing Rummikub. Whenever we play Rummikub as a family we are always told that it was the legacy of Ranji Ammamma, so it was quite exciting to visit Canada and play with her. Her presence has left an impression on multiple generations and we will miss her very much.

My Dearest Sister Ranji,
At this sad moment, my thoughts are full of our wonderful childhood in Colombo. Playing with our friends down the road and holidays spent with our many cousins.
Ranji, you were a multifaceted person. Warm and loving - your family and friends have many stories of you to talk about. Neat and methodical- your wardrobe and home was testament to that. Helpful and sociable- the many organisations that you were part of will miss your beautiful smiling face. More than that, you were a devoted wife to your darling Raj, a loving mother to Gopi and Kumaran and Mafrene and an adoring grandmother to Aria and Mia.
I remember when you used to do pencil drawings as a young girl and on my suggestion you ennrolled in Amarasekara Art School. Very soon the walls of our home was filled with your stunning oil paintings including the famous Mona Lisa. Your artistic style was embedded in all your daily activities, be it the way you dressed or your delicious cooking.
Ranji, your Aththaan has a very special place in his heart for you. Both of us will miss your lovely smile and listening to your bubbly voice over the phone. You were a shining example of a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and aunt.
As we travel on in life
Let's take comfort as we go
In a lifetime of happy memories
Of our dearest sister Ranji
Forever with love,

Our Dearest Darling Ranji Aunty,
The earliest memories that we have are of the idyllic and fun times at Asoka Gardens with you,
Raj Uncle, Gopi, Kumaran, Appappa and Ammamma. You were a loving parent not just to Gopi and Kumaran, but to all of us. With your endless and unconditional love, you enveloped us in your warmth and made all your nieces and nephews feel very special.
There are so many great memories of you that we can recount with love - effortlessly making scrumptious Sri Lankan food, hosting amazing parties, having fun playing card games and so many board games in whatever part of the world you were in -Sri Lanka, India, Australia, the US
or in Canada. How we loved teasing you while playing board games for being a stickler for following rules! We loved listening to you, Amma, and Ammamma recounting with much affection and nostalgia the good old days, laughing together at jokes. It is bittersweet to think
back on all those wonderful fun times we’ve had together.
Ranji Aunty, you were a fun, generous and loving aunt, always ready with advice and a recipe to
share. Your artistic and innate sense of style was reflected in everything you did. Your infectious
laughter, warmth and cheerful nature made people gravitate towards you and you have a
plethora of faithful friends and a family devoted to you to show for it.
It’s hard to put into words everything that you were to us. Your peaceful passing has left a huge
void in our lives. You are very much loved and will be greatly missed by us all.
You will always remain in our hearts, Ranji Aunty.
