Mrs. Irene Hodgson

Obituary of Mrs. Irene Hodgson

Please share a memory of Mrs. Irene to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Irene Holina Hodgson (née Morawska) passed away peacefully at home at 87 years old. Born in Toronto on June 4th, 1937 to Zygmunt and Anna Morawski. Predeceased by her son Michael and brother Jimmy. She is survived by her daughters Nancy and Heather (Jim), brother Eddy and sister Theresa and grandchildren Megan, Brandon, Alicia, Holina and Kristen.

A typographer by trade, she worked at Mono Lino and University of Toronto Press. She was a multi-faceted talented individual. A polyglot, lexicographer, artist and athlete. Her favourite passion was writing satire. She was witty, warm and always up for a lively conversation. She was a staunch defender of women’s rights, challenging the teamsters to grant maternity pay for women in Toronto. She was an incredibly generous woman who donated her time and money to charities and knitted hats for children in need. Her love of cottage country and healthy living was taught to her children and grandchildren. She was a woman of many talents. Too many to mention. Oh and the cooking…. We will all miss her pierogies, placki ziemniaczane (latkes) and cabbage rolls.
