Obituary of Mr. Richard "Glenn" Lavery

Please share a memory of Mr. Richard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Glenn Lavery died peacefully on Saturday evening, June 8, in his home, as he wished.

Glenn was born October 4, 1929 in Toronto, lived his childhood in North Toronto, and his adult life in Agincourt. His parents were Lillian Edith Lavery (nee Hunt) and Wilfred James Lavery, both deceased.

He married his high school (Lawrence Park CI) sweetheart Leila Ann Wakley in 1953 in Toronto.  They were married nearly 68 years until Mom’s passing in July, 2021.

They had two children; Janice Lavery (Dave Hubbarde), and Rob Lavery (Robert Amaral).  Glenn is also survived by his brother Douglas James Lavery of Peterborough and his family.

Dad graduated with Honours, University of Toronto, faculty of engineering in Civil Engineering in 1951.

He began his career as a plant manager at Siporex, a division of Domtar Construction Materials, before joining Lake Ontario Cement where he managed the precast concrete products division, retiring in 1989.  He was a member of the Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario, the American Concrete Institute, and the American Society for Testing Materials, through which he enjoyed attending conferences around North America – especially if it involved playing a round of golf or two.

Like his father before him, Glenn was a life-time member of York Downs Golf Club, and was golfing into his 90’s.  He was a proud member of the ‘Hole in One Club’ - 2 times!  He was also a longtime curler, and a member of the Tam O’Shanter Golf and Curling Club in Agincourt.  Dad was an avid fan of televised sports – and like many, struggled in support of our hometown teams.

Golf was his passion, but that was shared in later years with the family cottage on Chandos Lake near Apsley, ON.  Dad could often be found after dinner at the end of the dock casting his line and watching the sunset in perfect contentment.

The family is grateful for the care and medical attention he received in the last years of his life, especially family physician Dr. Azer, and the teams at CCAC.
