Best looking Commissioner! This was usually my first greeting! Floyd, I feel so privileged to have first met you at London Citadel when you were a Student. Over the years our paths crossed and our friendship remained with both you and Tracey. I always felt a true bond and especially over the last few years to walk this prayer journey with you. You said you were sorry that the burden to pray for you constantly had fallen on me. How could the privilege of praying for you be a burden. I shared seeing the cancer leave your body last year and yet it came back. That is a battle I will never understand until we meet in Heaven. I will treasure all your messages and especially the last ones from your hospital bed. Also our last conversation of Discernment of what the Lord was expecting from you and from me. We were both seeking together and that memory and closeness will always remain with me. You were always fun, teased me, but encouraged me constantly. One of the last messages you wrote was to "Come before God". I will continue to pray for Tracey, your Mum and your family and to remember the legacy you have left and the inspiration you were to me and to so many. I miss you! Much love Sue Taylor

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort who comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.” (2 Corinthians 1:3-4, NASB).
My wife, Karen and I, offer our condolences to Tracey and the family. We pray the God of all comfort surrounds you, and His people enfold you with their love.
Commissioner Floyd Tidd while he was suffering comforted others with an unwavering enthusiasm to share Christ’s love for all.
I first came to know Floyd when I was a member of the Messengers of Peace session at the Training College 39 years ago. He and Tracey were POGS. They returned that kindness by calling us MOPS. Some creative individual referred to us as the “Mason Jars of Peas.” My session mates may find and hurt me for revealing that to you.
Floyd didn’t just comfort people with the love of Christ. He showed another way we can uplift others, and that is through comedy. Floyd was well-known for his sense of humour. He believed that we can also uplift people with laughter. Just ask any MOP or POG about that.
Floyd would want us to continue to have a relationship with others that brings them comfort. I think he would also say that like Father Henri Nouwen, we should also be clowns for Christ. Let our lighter side shine.
That’s the Floyd we all knew and loved.

My deepest condolences to you, Tracey, Kaleena, Chris, Myrna, Rob, and your families. Floyd was a huge figure in the Army and our lives yet, in all that was his ministry he kept his integrity and humility. I always appreciated his personal touch and I always felt like I was the only one in the room with him when we talked face to face. Even on a Zoom meeting, when he sent private messages as the meeting was in progress. He cared very deeply for all whom he knew. How he was able to keep a personal touch on it, must have been exhausting, but I guess for him it was so natural and real he thrived in it. He will be missed by his family, friends and the Army world. I feel privileged to have known him as a friend and to know that it was under his and Tracey’s ministry that I learned about a personal relationship with the Lord. He introduced our family to camping ministry, which was the confirmation that the SA was going to be the church where we would raise our boys. Floyd and Tracey later were the ones to ordain our son as a Salvation Army officer. I remember the very first Sunday that I walked into that small classroom church service in a Meadowvale school and felt perfectly at home. The memories of those days have always been very special. The accordion in church. “Oh my”, as a Newfoundlander, I thought, “this was hilarious”, as it was used for kitchen parties in my world. There are so many great memories. The connections made always had a thread that continued through the years since. Floyd and Tracey laid a strong foundation for my faith, and I will always hold them in the highest regard. Tracey, Kaleena, Chris, Myrna, Rob, grandchildren: may the God that created us all carry you, strengthen you, comfort you, each one, as you now walk this lonely road without your life’s partner, you father, your son, your brother, and your poppy. My love and prayers to you all.

The most genuine and caring person, Floyd's heart was filled with compassion and love for people. An example of a servant leader who shared the love of God and ministered to so many of us during our darkest times. My heart aches as I share along with others our stories of Floyd, all of them personal because Floyd was sincere in his kindness and his interest in others. Floyd and Tracey were our corps officers at Woodroffe Temple in the late 1990s. Their time in Ottawa left a lifelong impact as it did wherever their calling led them. Today's service was very much a celebration of a life well lived in the service of our Lord. When the song "In Christ Alone" was sung, I was brought back to 2009, and the graveside service for my wife, Kelly. Tracey, you shared the words to this song at that time of the interment. They are profound and spoke truth and encouragement in that moment and throughout the years since then. I pray that you will be comforted in your sorrow in the way that you and Floyd brought comfort to me and to the many others you have ministered to over the years. Thank you for your ministry and for sharing Floyd with us.

Tracey, you know our hearts are with you on this journey, especially today, 8 June when you publicly celebrate Floyd’s life and legacy and confirm your painful loss.
What has been precious to us through the years as we have served our triune God, has been knowing that wherever we are, we have been together, by prayer and the power of friendships in Christ.

I first remember Comm. Floyd as D.Y. Many times he`d come and lead a youth service at our corps and always stay for lunch with us. I'd make dessert and he would unashamedly beg me to work at camp as his dessert chef. Comm. Floyd had an excellent memory for faces and names no matter how much time had passed. He was a bright, happy man of God, with ready wit, a great conversationalist, a proud husband and father, a natural leader who always had a hug for us. He is sadly missed. Our prayers, thoughts and love go out to Comm. Tracey and family.

To Tracey and family;
Our hearts are heavy as I write this. It seems impossible that Floyd is gone. Ed and I will never forget the impact that Floyd (both of you, really) had on our lives.
I vividly remember when Ed finally agreed to accompany me to the worship service at Meadowvale Corps for the first time. During the sermon, Ed leaned over and asked if I could see the glow around the priest! I later had to explain that there are no priests in the Salvation Army. However, that glow is what drew Ed back, again and again, until he gave his heart to the Lord.
We would not have become officers without the encouragement and support of both of you. Floyd’s guidance made a significant difference for us at CFOT.
I will always remember Floyd’s teasing and laughter, and how I would reach over to slap his arm! I enjoyed our banter, and seeing both of you was always uplifting and encouraging. I remember how he laughed over the name of the Filipino chicken dish Ed made—Adobo! Oh my, we remember all the fun times, the laughter at meetings and Bible studies, and all the special events we participated in. What a wonderful beginning to our ministry!
We are grateful we could share a meal at our last retreat before retirement. Floyd’s words to us were uplifting and encouraging as we reflected on our years as officers. That, too, made a significant difference in our hearts as we entered a new phase of our lives.
We will always remember Floyd as a friend, but also as a man of God, a visionary who saw what others sometimes could not. He dedicated himself to the Lord and the ministry of the Army, and touched countless lives - all of it written down in the book of his life.
Even though we were mostly in different parts of the country, except for one year, and only saw each other occasionally, we will miss him dearly.
Please know that we are praying for you, Kaleena, Christopher, and your lovely grandchildren. May God comfort you and bring you peace during this time. May you feel HIS love embracing you and sheltering you.
With all our love and prayers,
Kathie & Ed Chiu

Our memories of Floyd (and Tracey) go back as far as our ordination and appointment in 1990 to follow them at their first church (plant) in Meadowvale. Floyd was an incredible proponent of making sure we were well received and extended “hospitality plus” to us at every opportunity. We witnessed him living his life in that way. He was a discerning disciple of Jesus, who wholeheartedly loved the Lord, his family and his people/ministry.
He will forever be remembered by us as a man of integrity, humility and wisdom that gave his heart and soul to the spreading of the Gospel in whatever capacity he served within The Salvation Army.
We say “he is gone far too soon”, but God says, “well done, my good and faithful servant … Let’s celebrate together!”
And so, though it is very surreal, we extend our love and condolences to Tracey, Kaleena and Chris – and their families. You can be proud of the legacy that is yours to carry on through the life of one who loved and lived well.

I have so many great memories of Commissioner Floyd Tidd. One Christmas finances were tight and we were informed it was not possible for the Officers to gather for a dinner over the Christmas season (that had been the tradition at that time - I'm pretty sure this was during the financial crisis in 2008). Floyd and Tracy as Divisional Commanders then arranged for the Officers to go and have a night at the Conference Center at Jacksons Point (in between Christmas and New Years). It sounded like a great idea and our family went up just for a bit of a get away over the holidays. I did not realize that Floyd and Tracy had actually arranged to prepare the meal themselves. I'll never forget seeing them working in the dining room and kitchen that holiday in serving their Officers. It is the most significant example I think I've ever witnessed of authentic servant leadership.
One more. Floyd and Tracy soldiered at Bloor Central for a few years. I'll never forget that one week I had an Officer special at the Corps who was stationed at DHQ. Ten minutes before the service Floyd and Tracy came walking in and the visiting Officer (remaining nameless) turned to me in terror and said "YOU NEVER TOLD ME THE C.S. WAS GOING TO BE HERE!". It had never occurred to me that an Officer would be intimidated by having a leader in the congregation. Floyd (and Tracy) were always so supportive in everyway imaginable. We sure missed them when the went to Australia.
Karen and I offer our deepest sympathy to the whole family at this time of loss.

We first met Floyd and Tracy when they were the CO's at Georgina and we were at the SA Conference Centre in Jackson's Point. Connections followed in the former Ontario Division, then THQ. Floyd became the Chief Secretary when I was the SBA. While the workload was intense, I never heard Floyd raise his voice or get angry. He kept calm and carried on.
He had the ability to connect with everyone, one of his great strengths. He moved on to Australia, a huge responsibility and one day out of the blue I received an email from his secretary indicating that Floyd wanted to send me an old SA history book. He had remembered my love for Salvation Army history, those gestures are not forgotten. Why would he remember that in all his busyness? (partners in the gospel)
I have read again Floyd's comments in his THQ Farewell Chapel, they have stuck with me..."When you find a cause worth dying for, you find a cause worth living for."
Floyd's presence from our Territory will be missed, WE will miss him. His positive spirit and enthusiasm is a great loss. The loss even greater for Tracy and his family, may they know God's unique comfort at this time.

Floyd was one of our first points of contact when moving to Ottawa 25 years ago, looking for a church that had 2 things... good music and evening services. He and Tracy visited us within a week of our attending the corps. He was observant, compassionate, a good listener, intuitive and a problem-solver with kindness. As we struggled through the grief of leaving all of our friends and our Uni-sons behind, Floyd immediately invited me to play the organ in the evening meetings, re-engaging me and my husband in meaningful ministry and worship. We still cherish the friends we made then, and although we don't go to the SA regularly, some of those people are still our closest friends in Ottawa.

He showed faith in me when I could not see it and for that I am grateful. He was a TC with a difference, very personable and approachable, and encouraged me to live by the Spirit wherever that took me. I will never forget the gentle and humorous conversation we had about an impending protest action I was involved in and Floyd giving me the green light to participate, even with the risk of arrest, and the pastoral phone call after my court experience. Floyd, along with Tracey, showed much grace and encouragement to Ellen and I, and our lives are richer for knowing him. Ellen and I continue to pray for Tracey and the family.

A light has truly gone out with the loss of Commissioner Floyd J. His faith was profound, his zealous nature palpable and he was a beacon of friendliness to all who had the privilege of knowing him. As Territorial Commander of Australia, he was remarkably led by The Holy Spirit and stood as a testament to divine love and humility on earth. He will be sorely missed.

I surprisingly just found out less than 10 minutes ago of the promotion to glory for Floyd, Having first meeting Floyd and Tracey when I first became involved with the Salvation Army, I was instantly amazed at both of them, it was partially from meeting them that I first had inclinations toward Officership and when they had been sent to Australia to lead that Territory and the changes they helped bring about, brought me closer to feeling that I was being called to officership. I was able to renew the somewhat friendship with them when they were brought back to Canada as the Territorial leaders and we all attended a special service at Heritage Park Temple welcoming one of the Territorial leaders from South America to Canada. I had been praying constantly for both Floyd and Tracey since he first shared his diagnosis, when it was announced that they would be taking on an appointment at IHQ earlier this year, I was put into a good mood thinking that things had been going well but was shocked to find out he had been promoted to glory. I continue to pray for Tracey and the family during this difficult time and also pray for all those who knew him and thought of him. Good bye dear faithful servant of God.

Tracey, Kaleena, Christopher and family,
Sending our love, prayers and deep sympathy as you mourn the loss of Floyd.
We have been reflecting on Floyd’s influence in our lives over these past 20 years, and on our sons, Matt and Chris. Floyd welcomed us to Canada with memorable kindness and quick inclusion to our family.
Our thoughts have been drawn to Floyd’s strong pastoral heart, and the significant connections he made for others. And there are the memories of deep conversations and laughter over many meals shared in Canada and Australia - some cooked by Floyd - all with the special foundation of ‘shared history’.
Surrounding you with our love prayers,
Howard and Robyn Smartt

I have so many memories of our times together! Ottawa was never the same after “the Click” was changed. Ice storm serving, bbq’s in the pouring rain, Officer Fellowships on a regular basis, and years later presenting us with our retirement certificates. His words of comfort following Bert’s going to heaven, will always be remembered. He cared. It is hard to find friends like Floyd who are truly “friends”.
Tracy, thank you for sharing him with us. You are loved and being lifted up in prayer by many.

Ever since we first met Floyd & Tracey as Cadets in Toronto they have been forever friends. Floyd was so active, creative, giving in so many ways. He shared messages with enthusiasm. He was a great listener regardless of age.
His messages were easy to listen to and practical. He was always so personal, relatable and down to earth and always interested in our family as people first.
He often remarked when he was a Divisional Secretary for youth of the fun times we had around our dinner table after a worship service. He was deep enough in his love of Jesus that there was always room for family fun, even ours. He thoroughly enjoyed engaging with others and it showed. We are honoured to have known him as leader and friend. We pray for God's richest peace on Tracey and their wonderful family.
He will always have a special place in our hearts. Joe/Marg Bailey

Floyd and I met in a classroom in the late 1990's in Toronto. I was there representing Simon Fraser University, introducing a new leadership program to the Army. Floyd and I immediately connected. The initial connection may have been because we were clearly the "kids" in the room; however, in that moment there was a spark that kindled a friendship that would last for 25 years. "Floyd, thank you! For your grace, your humour, your deep care for all and most all thank you for being a beacon of faith for me and for so many others. Your acceptance of all of us as true children of God has been and will continue to be an inspiration to me. With so much love and gratitude". Charles Holmes, Vancouver BC

So many memories come to mind of a great, great man. Floyd loved everyone - whether you knew him for only 1 day or 30 years. For over 40 years, he has had a special spot in my heart from when he was an officer at Mississauga Temple, before moving to Meadowvale and then onto the divisional and territorial headquarter roles in Toronto and Australia.
One special memory I will hold dear is at National Music Camp where as a young teenager I shared my testimony for the first time ever. Floyd met me after that experience and encouraged me and I have never forgotten that - as a scared, embarrassed and awkward teenager.
Fast forward to Mississauga Temple's 40th anniversary in 2022, the very last exchange I had with Floyd was him telling me, "Darrell, I am very proud of you!"
Well, Floyd, you made the experience much greater by your constant encouragement, love and everyday non-intimidating way of sharing the gospel with whomever you came in contact with and want to learn more.

I knew of and heard about Floyd several years before I had the privilege of meeting him, as I visited and ministered to his Grand mother in Nova Scotia. My personal memories of him are primarily from having him in my classroom and Brigade when he was a Cadet. He was an impressive person then, with the heart, will and intellect to be a leader. His passing is a great loss for his family first of all and for The Salvation Army. So sorry for your profound loss, Tracy.

I don’t know what I could possibly add to the wonderful attributes given to my friend Floyd!
He was a faithful and dedicated servant of God; he was a dedicated Father; he was a leader in so many
Capacities.
His work is not finished; his work of sharing God’s “good news” becomes our commitment!!
But this I know….He giveth; He taketh; He will restore !
May the Lord bless your Family Floyd and give them your sustaining Grace!!!

I have such fond memories of Floyd….from working at Camp Newport with him 45ish years ago, to his heartfelt words he spoke at my father’s celebration of life.
My family loved Floyd and had great respect for him. He will be missed and remembered for all the good he did…and although I never saw him very often lately..he still always made me laugh.
