We offer our condolences to the Assing family on the passing of Philma on May 30, 2024.. We met Philma at the Seniors Exercise Classes at Milliken Crossing. She was warm and welcoming, and made us feel we had known her all of our lives. May the following be of comfort to you during your time of sorrow. Don't think of her as gone away, her journey's just begun, life has so many facets, this earth is only one. Think of her as living in the hearts of those she touched, for nothing loved is ever lost, and she was loved so much.

We extend our deepest sympathies to friends and family of Philma. Her kindness and warmth will be remembered forever. We always smile when we think about how she beat us at every card game during our trip to the Bahamas. We remember how happy she was relaxing in the ocean with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
With heartfelt condolences,

To My Dear God Mother,
You have been a constant my whole life. You are a generous and loving person who was always eager to go the extra mile for us. I know that although you were my God Mother, my sister and my brothers all appreciated having you in our lives as you treated them with the same love that you showed me.
As I got older, I was amazed at the computer courses you continued to take for work. You are possessed by a constant need to learn and grow and adapt to the changing world. But this need wasn’t limited to work. This is who you are and once you were no longer working, we would see this continued thirst for knowledge in your playing of the Steel pan or how you pushed to do the exercises that the physiotherapist would give you.
I’m sure you know how important food was to our gatherings and you will always be remembered at our future gatherings as you’ve passed the torch to others. No one will ever see a puff without thinking of you.
Of the people you leave behind, your children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, they are wonderful and amazing people. They weren’t just born that way, they are a reflection of you in their lives. What an amazing legacy to leave behind.
There is something that I want you to tell you that you may not know. It is that your sewing skills also played an important part in my life. Mom sewed for us but whenever we needed sewing done well my mother would say that this was a job for Aunty Philma. So, I learnt the importance of sewing and when I needed paniers for my bicycle, I sewed them myself. When my backpacks were damaged, I sewed them myself. When I needed a spray skirt for my canoe, I sewed it myself. Had it not been for my ability to make my spray skirt, I would never have been able paddle to remote rivers of Natla-Keel, the Deh Cho (aka Mackenzie) or the Coppermine. These are wild and remote rivers that few people have paddled, and I not sure I would be counted amongst them if it were not for you.
And now it is time to say goodbye. You’ve had a great and amazing life and I’m glad I was a part of it. I know that you are ready to move on. Otherwise, you would have continued to fight for every bit of life and would still be here. But it is time. So, farewell for now. I will miss you.
Love your God son Brian

To Richy, Cathy, and Lisa, and all your families:
Your mom was one of the most outgoing people I know, always up for a chat, rising to any challenge, and enjoying life as best she could. She radiated positive energy. A great example to us all about a life well lived. We shall all miss her.
Please accept my condolences.

Dear Richy, Cathy, Lisa and your families, we send you our sincere condolences.
Auntie Philma was such an amazing person with so much passion, energy and enthusiasm in all her actions and activities even when her eyesight was failing. Nothing would stop her.
Fond memories go way back when I first went to Richy's home in our school days. Auntie Philma taught us to make chicken puffs- my first introduction to those tasty morsels. I have to admit I still love them but I lack the energy to make them.
Was happy to have had the opportunity to lunch with her and Richy a few weeks ago. She was so excited with the upcoming trip to Trinidad. So sad that she did not make it but she is now free to travel everywhere and with Uncle Horace.
Auntie Philma will never be forgotten but will live on in our hearts. May she rest in eternal peace.

Ms. Philma was an icon in the Tropicana Steelband group. She was always filled with laughter and kindness and we have been lucky enough to play pan with her throughout the years. She will be missed in the steel pan community. Sending love and condolences to Cathy, Lisa, and the whole family.

We met Tai Pau (Philma), her husband and their family at the pre-wedding party between our son, Jorge, and Krista, their granddaughter. We were so thankful to find that they’re a down-to-earth, fun-loving family who welcomed us with open arms and treated us like long-lost friends. Since then, we’ve been members of each other’s families, so to speak.
We will remember Tai Pau as a warm-hearted, soft-spoken, loving, kind, gentle, always smiling, tennis-loving grandma.
Tai Pau, you will be missed. We pray that the Lord grant you eternal rest and let perpetual light shine upon you.

From the first time we met PauPau on July 2014, we instantly felt the warmth and love she had for family and friends. Her eyes always had a loving and caring embrace to anyone she said hello to and conversed with. She welcomed us into her family. We feel blessed with the time we spent with PauPau and pray for the eternal repose of her beautiful soul. May she rest in peace.

Dear Grandma, it has been a privilege to have known you all these years, over 20 years actually. Funny I think about it now that I have always called you grandma. That’s how it has always been; I was welcomed in your home like family. Your zest for life was infectious, always smiling. It always brought me to a good mood. You were so welcoming when I introduced you Tom, and happy to see the boys when we came over.
Condolences to the Assing family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. Thank you for sharing grandma with us.
Lots of love, Ann, Tom, Alex, and Harry Newby

I wanted to express my heartfelt condolences to Auntie Philma’s family. I will remember Auntie Philma as such a kind-hearted and fun-loving woman, with such a great sense of humour! Her joyful and warm spirit will be dearly missed by all who knew her. My last memory of Auntie Philma was her tearing up the dance floor at my cousin’s wedding, and us grabbing a selfie together! ❤️ I’d like to think she’s dancing away with Uncle Horace right now, and I am happy to think of their loving reunion. May God bless your family, and I hope that happy memories together with your Mom/Grandmother bring you some comfort and peace during this difficult time of loss. With love and prayers, Kim

Mom, knowing the person you are, you will say not to worry about me but not having you around will be difficult. The bond we have developed over the years will always be close to my heart. You are truly an amazing and fearless person. Even with your impaired vision, I really admired your commitment and dedication to your family and all your endeavours. I will always remember the good times going to McDonalds for our iced coffee or soft serve ice cream. What I will miss the most though is your trash talk to me while playing cards and hearing you laugh out so loud. Just thinking of those moments brings tears to my eyes. Mom, I love you and as promised, I will always try my best to keep Placentia a safe and happy place. Rest in peace.

From her endless love for her family to her trash talk while playing cards, Pau Pau is someone that will always have a special place in my heart. Pau Pau is a fighter, she is one of the strongest people I know and ever will know. She had a certain zest for life that can't be put into words. She lived life to the fullest for every second that she was on this earth and will continue to live in the memory of all the lives who she's touched.
To my loving Pau Pau, may you rest in eternal peace.
