Obituary of Mr. Cheung Wing Leung 梁長榮先生

Please share a memory of Mr. Cheung Wing Leung to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Cheung Wing Leung (August 24, 1933 – March 30, 2024) who left us peacefully in his 90th year at Scarborough General Hospital.

Beloved Husband to Lucy Chung Ho whom he lived, loved, and laughed with for over 67 years.

Loving Father to Mary, Lily (Kim), and Annie (Terry).

Much loved Grandfather to William (Maria), Robert (Clarissa), Justin (Charmaine), Matthew, Brittany (DJ), and Mitchell (Jessica).

Proud Great Grandfather to eight great grandchildren - Devan, Arizona, Marcus, Phoenix, Dakota, Arabella, Jace, and Charlie who brought him so much joy.

Wing also leaves behind his dearly loved younger sister Ping Kuen (Yuen Hock Chow) and their family as well as the family of Ping Ai (Wei Yu Chen), his greatly missed older sister and husband, who pre-deceased him.

Born in Toi Shan, China in1933, Wing immigrated to Canada in 1950 when he was sixteen.

Wing attended secondary school where his passion for sports, including his much loved volleyball, grew.

Wing started work as a cook at an Italian restaurant in downtown Toronto. He had many fond memories of his time there. A few years after getting married, Wing and Lucy moved the family to Oshawa and they successfully ran their own Chinese take out business. With much hard work and determination, they were able to retire early in their fifties.

Wing had many interests. He loved watching his Maple Leafs and his Blue Jays, hunting, golfing, fishing, singing, and learning about Youtube, to name a few. But, to Wing, nothing was more fun or enjoyable than the friendly rivalry of a round of mahjong or thirteen cards.

He also enjoyed travelling. Wing and Lucy returned to visit China numerous times and went on countless road trips to Florida.

His zest for life was boundless. No one can forget his infectious laugh or signature smile that lit up the room when he came in.

Wing lived a long and active life and peacefully passed in his sleep. Wing will be missed dearly.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made to the Scarborough Health Network Foundation – Funds allocation to Kidney & Diabetes Care.
